So did I, but agree with Jan it was a strange word.

Re: WORDLE
I got it in four. The only reason I did know what this word meant was that I seem to remember reading a biography about Joyce Grenfell and it said that she specialised in portraying 'gawky women.' I don't why but I've always remembered it. I did find it very difficult to guess. I got the second, fourth and fifth letters and then it took me ages to think of what the first and third could be.

Re: WORDLE
To coin Craig’s phrase ‘disaaarster, dahling’ this morning.
My usual two word starter yielded three letters & I was quite confident.
Using knowledge from my misspent youth in bars I confidently put in my 3rd attempt and got a 4th letter.
Mountaineering as a scout gave me my fifth letter…but still wrong.
The old soak in me then sprang on my final attempt with glee…& then disappointment!
Too late, I remembered Jay Silverheels & his steed.

I haven't looked at today's Wordle yet but I'm not at all confident after reading your comments Ranchi. I do know who Jay Silverheels was but haven't a clue about the name of his steed. Let you know.

Re: WORDLE
Well my usual starter word gave me the last letter and one other but not in the right place. I spent ages wondering what it could possibly be with the two letters I had. I managed it in three but I wouldn't have got it Ranchi without your Jay Silverheels clue, so thank you.

Did One have an American Ford in her fleet?
My fails yesterday included ‘optic’, ‘piton’ & ‘Pinot’.
Off now to try to do better at this morning’s Wordle. It will be accompanied by an episode of ‘Brian Matthew’s Sounds of the Sixties’ - well it is Saturday morning!

Re: WORDLE
Well yesterday’s word was a fluke and today’s the same to be honest - again in 4 attempts! I used a different starter word which didn’t help - oh well let’s try Quordle - plans to cut grass scuppered - raining again

Re: WORDLE
I also got it in four. I had the middle letter correct first go which helped then second attempt got two more letters in the wrong places but by moving them to the beginning of the word instead of the end I eventually managed to get it. A difficult one I felt and was lucky to guess correct on the fourth attempt.

Re: WORDLE
Yes, I got it in 4 …but have to say I didn’t use my usual starter as I had heard Mrs Ranchi muttering away during her efforts. I also had a bit of luck with a couple of the lesser consonants.
On the Octordle front-well I’d not heard that one! I have vague memories of the noun from school days’ English lessons but not the verb.

Re: WORDLE
Well I nearly didn't get Wordle at all. It was only on the fifth try that I got more than one letter - I got four! By this time there was only one possible letter that the first one could be so I did get it on the 6th attempt. I agree having three letters the same was a bit much.

Re: WORDLE
Been out today so the clues to the answer to today’s Wordle sort of helped but I still took 4 attempts to get it right. As for Wordle I rarely get it correct unless it’s pretty obvious - the African countries are a mystery to me

‘Phew’ this morning. Had letters 1, 3 & 5 in green by the 3rd row…downhill after that

Re: WORDLE
My starter words didn't give me any letters, which in an odd way can help. Second go I got the first and fourth in the right places plus one other letter which again did help so a lucky guess I got the answer in three - quite pleased with that!

Re: WORDLE
Same here. Was beginning to wonder if they were getting more difficult (of course I realise that is a silly notion, but I do love a conspiracy theory) as I’ve been in ‘Phewland’ a few times in recent days. Off to cut the grass before settling down to watch the tennis. Seems an age ago since we were queuing on the first day to see Cameron Norrie, Stan & Sinner.

Oh, I liked today’s word. Not the definition, I hasten to add but the style.

Re: WORDLE
Despite having two correct letters on line two I really struggled today - took me 5 attempts and when I got it well almost swore would have got it sooner if I’d realised it’s a palindrome
