Flight

#1

Post by barney »

I was quite surprised when I logged in to my cruise account to look at potential tours for our January Azura Canary cruise.
Our flights have already been allocated from Bristol.
Nice times.
9.00 out
14.00 back
With Jet2
We’ve flown with them before and they were ok.
So I booked the parking and got early booking discount and booked the Hilton on the airport for the night before.
Nice to spread the cost.
Happy days.

As you would expect from a Yorkshire based airline.

There are only three flights to choose from.
Jet2 9.0
Jet2 11.00
Tui 11.00
I guess P&O went for the earliest because it’s not the cheapest.
I’d be happy with Tui as well
Anyone but Ryanair.
One really really really bad experience never to be repeated.

In our experience yes.

For example, in recent airports chaos Jet2 cancelled 0.1% of flights, lower than anyone else.

Jet2 also have their own ground staff operations and do not employ other companies to handle this on their behalf. This has proved to reduce delays and enable them to have a better on time performance than most other airlines.

Only thing about Jet2 was their almost constant playing of their latest advert ,or theme tune through the speakers. The poor crew were up and down the aisle the whole flight trying to sell stuff. Apart from that, had good flights to/from Newcastle/ Malta

We’ve had a RAF Airbus A400M circling us all morning.
Last month 3 USA F16s buzzed our beach.
It was fabulous.
I guess we’re on some training flight path over the Bristol Channel.

Are you in the Barnstaple area Barney? Many years ago while on a caravan holiday there we watched Vulcans flying over Barnstaple while landing at (I assume) RAF Chivenor, could these planes be based at the same place?

Four miles away Towny but we’re used to Chivenor because we look at it across the river.
These are too large for Chivenor but if Vulcans landed there, who knows?
Maybe from Filton?
The F16s must have come from an American base and there are none around this way.
We have the Royal Marine amphibious unit at Instow.
We we sitting having a drink at the Instow Arms a few weeks back watching the Netherlands Marines practicing amphibious landings.
Surreal really.

Nothing to do with the post but two places that have been mentioned have real memories for me: Filton and Barnstable. Had a holiday in Barnstable when I was probably about 14. My brother, three years younger, and I were racing down a hill, goodness knows why, and I was in the lead and he reached out and pushed me over. I landed on my wrist, broke it and ended up in Barnstable Hospital. My parents were not impressed but my brother insisted he hadn't pushed me - still insists he didn't! Filton takes me back to the 1960s when I was at college in Bristol. I was on teaching practice in a junior school in Patchway, very near Filton and used to see Concord doing its training flights over Bristol. It was a common site and the youngsters in the school loved to see it from their playground. Memories!

Here in Norfolk we have all types of military aircraft over us regularly from RAF and USAF bases in the east.
With all the disruption to holiday flights from around the country, delayed, canceled and being diverted to other airports, and baggage reclaim problems, does anyone have knowledge of P&O flights being effected. Are they still getting away and returning as normal within reason ?
Don't worry, be happy
