For a little extra?

#1

Post by Billyp53 »

Can someone tell me what "for a little extra" regards the dining options actually means in £'s and is it worth it?

It varies depending on the venue but you are looking at anything from around £10pp up to £30pp

I think the Beach House is still only £7.50, and some of the additional cost items in The Olive Grove are less than that. But there are sample menus on the website.

Give the ‘Glass House’ a try. You won’t be disappointed.

If Epicurean is open on your cruise Billy, I’d recommend.
It’s £28 per person but when we have eaten there previously, it’s been top drawer.
Similar on land would cost more than double.
The Glass house is also very good as is Sindhu.
Actually, the only one I’ve not been over impressed with is the Beach House.
We have pubs in Instow that do similar so I can’t look at it as a treat.
On our Ventura cruise back in July the Main Dining Room was also very good.
Didn’t have a duffer.
Empty vessels .. and all that

You should be less enthusiastic Barney; the way things are going you’ll soon be having to pay a supplement to use club dinning

It’s really each to their own, isn’t it.
When we first started cruising, we did everything the traditional way.
Early sitting.
8.30 show.
Most of the lectures.
Didn’t really participate in the payable extras because we didn’t have confidence.
Now, after many cruise holidays, we are a very different animal.
Laze about.
Get up late.
Very spontaneous.
Hardly plan anything entertainment wise.
I like the booking app for the restaurants.
On our last one, we could have been still up on deck sunbathing until about 7 because of the wonderful weather.
Go to dinner about 9ish.
Couple of drinks and bed.
We saw a few of the special acts but didn’t go to headliners at all.
Early on, we would go to everything.
We’ve evolved.
Empty vessels .. and all that

On our last trip Beach House was £8.50 booking, plus extra for some menu items (e.g. £7 for 8oz lava rock filet steak).
Sindhus was pay per item (no booking fee) ... was about £6 starter, £10 main, £6 dessert
Glass House is generally pay per item (they do a great sharing platter for £18).

When the new pricing model was brought in it was claimed to be extra for the staff, so there is no need to tip.

This might help Billy. No prices but sample menus for each restaurant. Obviously they can and will change but it gives you an idea what to expect.

The beauty of the Beach House is that if you pick your evening well you can dine in the open air with some lovely views. I would have with one of the earlier posts which suggested that the quality wasn’t that great but we have recently returned from Aurora and were quite happy with the product. One downside is that you cannot book a table so it’s first come first served and the best spots go. Also if the weather doesn’t suit then it’s an inside meal.

We went once some years ago and weren’t overly impressed. But I guess like any restaurant you get an off night.

You may not be able to officially book a table but they can be reserved, with a subtle slip of the wrist. :)
We were a little disappointed in the Beach House in March but found it to be excellent last month (apart from they had no salt blocks).
I would like to see them get back to the 2 menus though (rather than just 1).
