Re: Hot Hot Hot
32 here. Expected to peak at 35 later. But with curtains on the sunny side of the house closed only 27 indoors. I may need another jumper.

Re: Hot Hot Hot
What do you expect with the log burner going.
We are just approaching 31c at 1450. A nice sea breeze is tempering things but in the sun out of the breeze, it's like an oven.
Don't worry, be happy

36c now according to the app. I’ve just been outside, it’s like a wall of heat. I’ve retreated to my darkened room

Re: Hot Hot Hot
I think anyone who is too stupid to know when it's too hot to safely go out in the sun, is not safe to be allowed out on their own.

We are quite fortunate in that our lounge is East facing so never gets the full force of the sun…our kitchen however is South facing so I’ve told my wife that she shouldn’t spend more than three hours in there making my dinner, washing up and bringing me cups of tea….we have to look out for each other when its as hot as this.

It’s going to be one hell of night trying to sleep. Thank god for the neighbours power supply so we can have the fan running all night.

Re: Hot Hot Hot
34 now and according to the forecast we've peaked for today.
Blessedly our house is upside down so our bedroom is downstairs and faces east. It's been in the shade since mid morning and with curtains closed it's several degrees cooler than upstairs. Phew.

Re: Hot Hot Hot
I got no more than three hours sleep last night. Up a 5.30 dog walked, chickens cleaned and fed, wife still in bed.
Bit of cloud cover this morning which I hope lasts because our daughter is driving up from Hampshire this morning to collect wood boring beetles from Attingham Park.

Re: Hot Hot Hot
We got new double glazing in earlier this year and we added a sun tint to most rooms (didn't cost any extra). We also tried following the advice from the news yesterday which was to keep your windows and blinds closed as much as possible during the day and then open them once the sun has gone down.
Between these 2 it certainly seems to have helped

The 4:00am temp on my phone was 22 C and it's already 26 C at 8:30. Huddersfield reached 39 C yesterday so it will be interesting to see how hot it gets today.

I'm certainly taking this seriously and taking precautions. However the media don't help themselves where accusations of hype are concerned. They have been consistently saying this is the first red heat alert the Met Office have ever issued. Only last night did the BBC add the phrase "since the system was introduced last year'. So one could with equal validity say that last year was the only year we've not had a red heat alert ( since the system was introduced).

Re: Hot Hot Hot
This is actually hilarious.
When I was a kid in Australia, this was summer, for months on end.
I’m fully aware that there are a lot of extremely thick people in the country but if they seriously need advice on what to do when it’s hot, then it may be nature’s way of natural selection, because they certainly shouldn’t breed.

I put two, 2ltr bottles of frozen water each side of our dogs basket last night and when I got up this morning she was as stiff as a board.

Re: Hot Hot Hot
When I saw pictures of the guardsman in his bearskin I wondered if they put something cool inside and rather than sweat trickling down his face it was condensation!!
Surprised they weren't allowed fatigues rather than ceremonial dress but that's the army for you.

Re: Hot Hot Hot
I think there's a difference because countries that are frequently hot have an infrastructure to cope with it, equally the other way, for example in Alaska. And it's not in the experience of many so they're clueless how to behave. You're right about the thickness of the population as we've witnessed regularly in the last couple of years. Natural selection will deliver as tragically it already has with people who've chucked themselves in cold water, for example, paying the price.barney wrote: 19 Jul 2022, 09:31This is actually hilarious.
