This may well be the one time you are right Onelife. Whilst I am sure that Israel's allies would prefer a negotiated settlement, I don't think they would be too upset if Israel were to give Iran a good smacking.Onelife wrote: 02 Oct 2024, 18:59I don’t actually think Israel support has ever really waned, yes there have been many calls for ceasefires, etc, but when theses calls are translated into what the West really wants, it roughly translates... “Not in our name, but we support your actions”

I’m sure that is the case John…it has been reported that Iran is fast moving towards a point where they have nuclear capabilities. Nuclear deterrents are one thing, nuclear capabilities in the hands of those with an ideology where death is seen as a path to paradise is a completely different ball game.towny44 wrote: 02 Oct 2024, 23:28This may well be the one time you are right Onelife. Not a popular view but I’d be more than happy to see Ireland reunited.
I’m sure something could be worked out if a referendum proved favourable.

NOT being Irish I don’t fully understand the deep-rooted history behind there not being a united Ireland…Perhaps there needs to be two simultaneous referendums to see how the land lies between the north and south. What will however be required is having leaders from both sides wanting the same goals. A very complicated jig saw puzzle to solve I would suggest.barney wrote: 06 Oct 2024, 08:34Not a popular view but I’d be more than happy to see Ireland reunited.

BBC News - Sue Gray quits as Sir Keir Starmer's chief of staff
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cdenx2p32jxo
I expect it comes with a pay off and a pay rise.
If she follows the Dom Cummings pattern she'll be leaking all sorts of dirt within three months.
This sleaze free Government is going awfully well so far.

Keir Starmers pragmatic approach to illegal boat crossings seems to be going to plan…

Private schools initiative falling apart, non doms moving out, Gibraltar and the Falklands getting twitchy after Starmer's latest giveaway, irregular migrants flooding in, resignations, winter fuel controversy, free gifts and donations- they're doing a great job!!

"Labour's Harman says 'missteps' to be expected" (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cpdqy833584o)
In other words they don't know how to do the job. If that happened in any other industry you would be out of your job the next day.

I was initially willing to give them the bennift of doubt but it is as I’ve been saying for years…. “our political system has corrupted itself beyond repair”

There's nothing wrong with the system, just the idiots we are conned into electing.

Perhaps not quite beyond repair, but we haven’t as yet found a mechanism which can put it back together again….Mervyn and Trish wrote: 07 Oct 2024, 11:28There's nothing wrong with the system, just the idiots we are conned into electing.
The system cannot be repaired if you keep replacing it with the same faults... it always ends up backfiring.

How about we only let grown ups with an IQ in triple figures, who have demonstrated the ability to put their pants on in the morning, vote?
