It beats Christmas shopping though. We went on Friday and you could see all the poor souls trailing around after their wives. What is it about shopping that women love so much? All credit to those shops which put chairs by the door. At least we menfolk can have a sit down whilst the ladies are 'browsing'.
We were in Edinburgh Woollen Mill once when a chap came in with his wife, stood in the doorway and announced 'I have been in every EWM in the country except the Edinburgh one!!'
To which a voice from the opposite corner replied, 'I've been in that one!!'

I don't mind sauntering around B&Q, Screwfix, Maplin's, Halford's and places like that but my OH never seems keen on the idea.
There's nothing beats a good football match or a nice bracing walk in the countryside no matter whether it's up hills or on the flat. Failing that a restful sit in front of the box preferably with a box of chocolates or some nibbles and a glass of something.
How's that for starters?
I wonder how everybody else likes to spend their time.

Are you into model railways, too, sir? Perhaps we should start a thread dedicated to the hobby??

I'm on here cos I was doing jobs caused by a committee meeting this morning and got side tracked.....
I still haven't read the paper and I'm meant to be knitting a Palace kit - commissioned by a friend of JD who (the friend) clearly has no idea how long these things take - she asked a couple of weeks ago - and wanted delivery by the end of the month- It'll be another couple of weeks yet...

Generally when JD commissions stuff I get 3 months notice. I emailed her a couple of days ago to see if she knew the gender so's I could get the buttons the right way round only to find that the baby's a month early, already here and named after an ex player!

I love model railways. I don't have one myself, I just don't have the space or the know-how but I love looking at the layouts of those in the modelling clubs and admiring what they have created, especially those setups which reflect 'real' scenarios now long since gone. It does seem to be an all-absorbing hobby whether you are into the history, the electronics or just delicate craft skills and the results are amazing.

Don't know if anyone watched Hinterland the Welsh detective series but last night's episode featured a chap with a model railway who turned out to be the murderer :lolno:

Television seems to have this obsession with portraying any character who has an interest in railways (full size or model) as being either evil, mentally unstable, or a few sandwiches short of a picnic!

When my grandchildren came along my late husband was very enthusiastic about a model railway up in the attic but sadly it didn't come to fruition :( I think it must be a calming sort of hobby and so creative - some of the layouts look amazing

I was watching a home-video on Youtube the other night, some bloke showing off his layout. I am very sorry, I don't mean to be judgmental, but he just sounded like an anorak!
