Of course you have....it's the Ayr Gold Cup and it still shows Purosangue 25/1 as a possible runner

Hey! Foxy, were you that kid that didn’t get invited to many any parties?

I’m not as good with stats as Pompey but since Pompey started this thread, I think you’ll find that had you backed all of my staked selections to the price taken you would be showing a profit….and if you take in the 33/1 winner just before he started the thread then you’ll be £££ in

Well it was my intention not to mention Purosangue again but unfortunately I got caught up in that spiders web Onelife created with his certainty that Purosangue is a horse who is going to win ( unlike that carthorse Overlooked....some horses never win )
So I am slightly annoyed that I have had to continue to follow Purosangue because if he actually does win the Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday.....I can just imagine Onelife with a smug grin on his face :sarcasm: ...saying " Told you so " " you should have had faith in me " etc etc etc
And to be fair....people are making bets on him....down from 25/1 to 16/1 and Corals & Ladbrokes make him 14/1

So I made a small e/way bet at 16/1 ....but having since looked at the stats for the Gold Cup ...2 red flags so perhaps the best I can expect is a place but what I'm expecting is he will in a bad starting stool and finish outside the top 4

As you rightly say the draw for the Ayr Gold Cup can make a big difference so with this in mind it’s best to wait until tomorrow before making any wager...Oop’s, I see you’ve already blown placed your bet. I think Purosangue has a chance but the 6-day turnaround worries me…should he run; my stake will be dependent on what stall he gets. As for the start of the three-day meeting (tomorrow) nothing is catching my eye.

Hi Pompey, on recent running’s of the Ayr Gold Cup it doesn’t look like Purosangue has been lucky with the draw (stall 2) that’s not to say low drawn horses don’t run well in the race, but middle to high have had the best of things in recent years. I will still have a decent bet on the horse as I can see two scenarios happening…the first is that high numbers will dominate with low drawn horses just making up the numbers...the second is that there will be enough pace to keep the low drawn horses in the race, if this proves to be the case then the first time fitting of patches should help Purosangue lay-up with the pace, which he will need to do if he is to have any chance, indeed I wouldn’t be surprised to see the horse trying to lead the far side group.

Tomorrows “Bronze Cup” (same distance) will be a good indication as to where we stand with draw and pace.

Hi Onelife, you need to act fast if you decide to have a bet....now down to 9/1 at Corals, Ladbrokes & Bet Fred. You can still get 11/1 at William Hills or other bookmakers. You go to Ludlow according to an earlier post.....William Hills is in Leominster which isn't to far to go and the exercise on your bicycle will do you good
I was quite liking Alfa Kellenic who won the Ayr Gold cup trial and the Ayr Silver cup last year but not enough to make a bet
Also I note the owner of Purosangue is also running Seven Questions in the Gold Cup as well.

Racing TV has 6 for the shortlist.....Purosangue is number 2
2 PUROSANGE
Draw: 2. Odds: 16-1.
He’s been something of an underachiever since developing into a speedy two-year-old a couple of seasons ago, with his last win being almost two years ago.
However, he’s not had the soft ground he relishes this season and seems likely to belatedly get his conditions from a mark that is 7lb lower than at the start of the campaign.
He copes well with testing conditions, as he showed when runner-up in last year’s Coral Charge behind subsequent Group One winner Marakova, and when beaten a neck by Quinault in Listed company at York about this time last year.
Purosange stuck at it when beaten about a length behind Desert Falcon on goodish going at Doncaster last week. He gets a 3lb pull and softer ground in his quest to turn the tables, plus is equipped with first-time cheekpieces and this time has the services of Oisin Murphy.

Hi Pompey, whatever happens you have got a cracking good price…16/1
I went in this morning to place tomorrow’s bets and decided not to take a price on Purosangue as it was, as you say trading at 9/1…. I have kept the faith and placed £15-win £5 place and just hope ‘Aint Nobody’ doesn’t come a spoil the party.

I’ve backed three other horses which I will post late as I’m just off out to take a walk around Croft Castle… which I use as my my weekend residence.

As for riding my Vado 4.0 turbo... I did todays 10.3 miles return journey in just under 45 minutes…which included locking the bike and placing my bet. I picked the bike up Tuesday and have done 53 miles thus far….absolutely love the bike... i have named it The Yellow Peril. :D

Had a nice walk this afternoon bringing my mileage up to 13.3 miles…I hope I’m setting a fine example to you all  ;) :)

Well as promised here are my Saturday selections.

Newbury 4.25 Jumby £5-win

Ayr 1.15 Apiarist £5-win

Ayr 2.25 Lord Bertie £7-win £2 place

Ayr 3.35 Purosangue £15-win £5 place

I’ve also done a 50p win Lucky fifteen on the four

Keep smiling

Newbury 4.25 Jumby £5-win I have been taking a quiet look at Linwood for some time and but for the price this would have been my bet...also owned by the owner of Purosangue. Jumby is at a decent price if he can win

Ayr 1.15 Apiarist £5-win Here come the stats  no 4 yr old has won since 2011

Ayr 2.25 Lord Bertie £7-win £2 place Remember this one from Ascot....good price 33/1 & betting for a place is good idea. I kind of think he needs to be ridden more towards the front rather than held back....here's hoping he wins

Ayr 3.35 Purosangue £15-win £5 place
There seems to be quite a bit of betting on Purosangue....now down as low as 7/1 at some places ....Bet Fred was 17/2 but in the last hour has gone down to 15/2...I obviously hope he is going to win but those stats

He was clearly having an off day, he'll be double the odds in his next race.

If we are going by the states then we have both blown our money on Puroiangue…favourites have a poor record in the Ayr Gold Cup. :(

There is one stat that seems to be consistent… the horses that I put with good chances generally get backed in from much bigger odds, as is the case with Purosangue.

What this amount too is that knowing what horse should run well (having analysed the form) doesn’t mean that the horse will follow through with that performance…horses not machines springs to mind.

Well Apiarist was backed from 12/1 to 6/1 so obviously several others thought it had a good chance to win
As for Lord Bertie ....didn't run as well as you hoped

As for Purosangue....I can hardly believe the amount of support he has got...now down from originally 25/1 to a low 6/1 fav
However the fav won in 2023 & in 2020 and that's pretty recent...also Bielsa won at 15/2 in 2021
So maybe Purosangue has a chance.....
Just getting a another hot drink & snack before settling down to watch the Gold Cup and see my 16/1 bet cruise to victory

Well Pompey, at least you made a 50% profit on your bet…Purosangue ran a fine race to get placed. I think they should have saved him for this race and not run him 6 days ago, but hey’ who pays the money makes that choice.
I actually thought Lord Bertie ran a good race, yes, he finished out of the frame but to his credit was finishing better than most.

Pleased that I got a place & you should have got something back even at 9/1......when I was watching just before the race I saw a couple of the bookies on track had him at 5/1. He has the Challenge cup at Ascot in October....I smiled when the lady tv presenter said she was not backing him anymore because she had been let down too many times

What did I say about Lord Bertie....don't have him at the rear....yet that's what the apprentice jockey did :eh: ....who knows ...maybe being near the front might have given a better result.....on the two races he won before he wasn't held up in the rear....just saying
