if anyone is foolish enough to have a £1 ew do be aware that you lose your stake if it doesn't run at (Anti-post prices)

A very sad day with the loss of Kalif Du Berlis this afternoon….they’ll be a lot of tears shed at Paul Nicholls stable tonight.

You make a good point,I suggested the £1 e/way because if you can't afford to loose a couple of quid you shouldn't be betting

I came back on here just to mention about Kalif Du Berlis but you got there first...(a horse that was in my ABC)
Such a sad day....I've heard that also Wertpol suffered a fatal fall during the juvenile hurdle & Peso pulled up with an untreatable injury in the Shaker Handicap Chase and was euthanized

I meant to watch the race live stream but I was so engrossed in checking easyjet flights ( hoping to get some sun soon in Spain ) that I forgot about the time. :o Anyway have now seen the race and yes Sober did well, just as I expected....as I said earlier it was disappointing to see him run in such a small field.

Hi Onelife, something a bit strange has happened.....

So I decided to follow my own advice when I suggested others could also follow your lead by having a small anti-post bet on Joyeau Machin
So wanting a bigger price than the 18/1 Bet Fred was offering made my way into a Corals...as the guy behind the desk seemed to be in the middle of a discussion with one of the punters I went over to the machine they have ...pressed on Future entries where it showed " Great Yorkshire Chase "
Found Joyeux Machin @ 20/1....then went for the £1 e/way option as I said....walked out of Corals after putting ticket in wallet. :D

£2 spent not a fortune but here is where it gets a bit strange.....today I was just glancing over my ticket and thought something seems wrong
It is the time shown on my ticket....It shows the race as 14:05 & when I look at the racecards for 24th at Doncaster it shows a different race
The 14:05 is the Yorkshire Rose Maidens Hurdle not the Yorkshire Chase like it showed on the screen.
The Great Yorkshire Chase is shown as 14:38....so it looks like the machine has printed the wrong time on my ticket.

As it only shows the time not the race name it seems likely if I don't manage to get over to Corals I could lose my stake even if Joyeux wins
Like I said it's only a couple of quid not a fortune so I'm not really that bothered but it has taught me a lesson
If you use a machine in a betting shop..... Always double check everything on the ticket before you leave

Oh dear Pompey. If it’s not dodgy horses 🐎 enticing your money away from you it’s now dodgy machines. This betting lark is fraught with pitfalls. I think you deserve a bit of good luck with Joyeau after the stress it has put you through. 👍

Hi Pompey, before we get into your predicament l just want you to know that the plan we devised “how to get rid of Foxy” is nearing completion… :D

Well, Pompey, the first thing to say is that I’ve never placed a bet using an in-shop betting machine so can only say what i think will happen….Had you placed your bet on the day (none antipost) your bet would most likely “stand” for the 2.38 even though you put the wrong time of 2.05 on the ticket (this is the case in most betting shops) The fact that the horse hasn’t been declared for for the 2.05 (Anti-Post) it will be deemed as a none runner (but i would bring this to the attention of the betting shop when next passing to clarify this)..they might void the bet there and then, or you may have to wait until the bet is settled before getting the refund…either way your money is safe to have another punt on Joyeux Machin.

My advice would be to wait till Friday to see if Minilla Missile is still declared for Saturday, if it is, stick another couple of quid on as you won’t want to hear me saying…”I told you so” later Saturday afternoon. ;) :)

When I saw what Onelife said (above) I sat there with my mouth open in amazement and then had a good chuckle
Let's face it OBF you've known him a lot longer than me so you know how he can cleverly wind people up

Regarding Minella Missile yes he is entered for Saturday at Ascot and Sunday for Windsor. The Windsor race on Sunday is for 3 miles and the only time he ran that distance was in the same race last year when he came 9th but he was only about 9 lengths away and made a mistake at the last so maybe if he runs there instead of Ascot he might do better. Anyway, at the moment he's not a horse I would have confidence in so if he does win on Saturday or Sunday you can have all the glory

PS....don't know if you've heard the news but it seems Constitution Hill might run at Southwell in a flat race in the middle of Feb before he runs at Cheltenham.

" Thorn " Is that a clue ?

Got it....Silver Thorn..won at Exeter 5 days ago & Doncaster in December. So I'll take a look at races in Feb and hopefully he might win again

Hi Pompey, there wasn’t any underlying message in my post other than to say Foxy has almost ruined my reputation as being the forum tipster. What I will say however is that you run me a very close second when it comes to your interesting statistical analysis of all things horsey.

Onelife’s Saturday/Sunday bankers.

Whilst there is some decent racing Saturday. I’ve struggled to find anything that really stands out, so with this in mind I'm going more for value than form choice.

Scarface - 2.20 Ascot looks to have a fair chance (backed this one last time out) It doesn't look the strongest class 2 race so he might just scramble home.

£5 win

Samuel Spade - Ascot 2.53 You’ll have to be brave to back this one on recent form but the fitting of blinker might just help this horse, a horse that has shown ability but might prefer firmer going…but, hey ho, in for a penny or..

£5 win

Richmond Lake - Haydock 2.00 .Looks to be up against it but given that the going looks to be heading for the softer side of GS then he might just relish a slog at tasty odds

£3 win £2 place

Sunday

Minella Missile Windsor 2.25. One that I have been following with interest, and one that I believe should be coming to peak fitness going on recent outings. The 3 mile distance is a bit of concern - on what looks to be pretty testing condition, however if he is going to win then this is a winnable race at the weights.

£15 win £5 place

yes couple of interesting choices there Onelife. As for Haydock with Richmond Lake you'll be aware that Royale Pagaille won this twice previously and didn't do well last year when Pulled Up but Richmond lake did come 3rd.
However I think the slightly younger horses probably going to win this
Then there is the 15:30 at Ascot.....looks like Il Etait Temps has this one although it will be interesting to see how Thistle Ask does as he is also entered in the Scottish Champion Chase at the end of the month besides Cheltenham in March.
Handstands is running at Windsor on Sunday...top weight He is being considered for Gold Cup or Grand national

Saturday Results

Richmond Lake - 2nd beaten a neck

Samuel Spade - PU

Scarface - PU

I don’t know about you Pompey but I didn’t think B Hughes gave RL the best of rides, having plenty of horse beneath him two out and yet he didn't start riding the finish till after the last.

As for Il Etait Temps 2/5 on fav… he wouldn’t have won even had he stood up. he didn't look comfortable on the ground and will, I suspect be put away till Cheltenham where I’m confident he will reverse the placing with Jonbon…nice to See Jonbon returning to something like his best though.

So what do we say in these situations…Foxy’s curse continues…Come on Minella Missile.

Have you never considered using a pin?

All I can say is horses are like women - totally unpredictable. Who was it who said to avoid fast cars, fast women and slow horses?

Having now watched the race I tend to agree with you....I hope he does a better job in the Great Yorkshire Chase if he runs
You were so close to a win :(

Regarding tomorrows Windsor race with Minella Missile....if I was having little bet my e/way would be on Captain Teague although I am aware he might need this race as he hasn't raced for over a year....however last time Minella won a race (2023 ) it was when Captain Teague came 2nd and was just under 2 lengths away. Just read a Racing Post article where Robbie Wilders said...

"Minella Missile's Racing Post Ratings this season have been rising while his BHA mark has been in decline. That is a positive omen and he is 17lb lower than when there were excuses for his ninth in the previous running."
