IMO, it was probably a penalty. BUT, I have no sympathy for the non-awardance of it, due to the ridiculous dive Zaha took. I'm totally fed-up with the antics of many professional players, and if it takes a few bookings and not gaining penalties to change their ways, then so be it.oldbluefox wrote:Not sure whether it was Zaha or Tom Daley!!!!
Huddersfield came up against a very talented Derby side yesterday. After conceding a soft goal (Martin reacted quicker than anyone else to a mis-hit shot from Russell), we battled back to equalise. Their winner was an absolute cracker though - superb technique from young George Thorne (who had a great game). Our keeper made 3 fantastic saves, so Town can't feel aggrieved at the result.
Just out of interest, I've researched the cost of Derby's starting 11. Apart from Martin who was recruited on a free, all the side cost money. Their 5 man midfield cost around £20million, and they still managed to bring on a £2.75m substitute, when Tom Ince went off injured. Out of Town's side, I think only 2 players cost a transfer fee, totalling about £2-2.5m...Nakhi Wells cost £1.5m of that too! The difference in quality was evident throughout the game to be fair.

Re: Football thread 2015/2016
Went to watch Town vs Rams yesterday, it was a cheap school tickets offer so went with eldest son and G/daughters, even then I think we were robbed!
It was a mismatch from start to finish and the most one sided 2-1 I have seen in some time, the on loan goalie stopped it being a slaughter. If Powell is getting the best out of the Town players then they will struggle to stay up this year, they lack quality in all areas. They have one or two adequate players but overall they are not up to championship standard.

Re: Football thread 2015/2016
I must admit, when watching it live I thought it was a penalty we had got away with. However on slow mo it looked more and more a case of running at the defender and falling over rather than being tripped. Some days these things are given but biased as I am I thought the ref made the right decision.Romig1 wrote:IMO, it was probably a penalty. Some of the diving is so blatant that if shown to be cheating deserves much more of a punishment than a booking.

Tim Sherwood has been given the chop at Villa. How much longer can the Wally with the Brolly last at Newcastle?

Still top barney - but lost in a top of the table clash!!
And a good day for the modplods' teams so they'll be in a good mood tonight.
I'm getting acrophobic - just a couple of little teams between us and the top of the Prem. Good game though with plenty of talking points on both sides.
RB will be pleased with his little team (
), Aldershot made a draw and Huddersfield? Least said soonest mended. Another quiet night in Romig's and towny's households.

Hammered the Hammers 2:0 today
Next week we play those winning Foxes, therefore, we need three points and to prevent Vardy scoring 9 games on the trot .... question is " Do those Foxes need yet another Pizza ? "

The Foxes aren't bothered about pizza as long as they score more goals than the other team. It should be a cracking match and a great atmosphere.

Re: Football thread 2015/2016
I'm beginning to grasp the reality of the gulf in the Championship. Last week, we played Derby, who's starting team cost well in excess of £20m. This week, we faced Burnley, who cost a mere £15+m. Our team cost about £2m. We will never match these teams for quality, so must compete with extra effort. Unfortunately, we have a couple of players at the moment who are lacking in this quality.oldbluefox wrote:Still top barney - but lost in a top of the table clash!!

Oh well, on the positive side, I'm thinking that we won't be facing such talented teams all season....we play Reading next on Tues (wonder how much they cost?). We need to win down there, cos my best mate is from Reading and I really want some bragging rights!

I have no idea but I do know that Reading paid Watford £2 million just to ' loan ' Vydra for this season only.Romig1 wrote:... Our team cost about £2m ... , we play Reading next on Tues (wonder how much they cost?).

I think Romig might have to wait for bragging rights, we don't have a good record against Reading, lost 22 won 13 drawn 9, and only won 2 out of last 8. But I live in hope that the tooth fairy might be real.

I went up for our match and must say what a great advert for league one
Lost it at the death but in reflection, Walsall were slightly the better side and probably deserved it.

Hard luck Barney - for the neutral it sounded a good match. At least you still have an extremely healthy goal difference.
Shots had a nice 4/5hr trip to Southport and only managed one point. Still in top half of table (just)! Looking forward to visit of Bradford City in FA cup on Sunday - an upset of form would be good!
One of the supporters on our coach suffered a heart problem at Southport - resulting in at least an overnight stay in hospital. Hopefully he'll be ok soon and there was plenty of help shown from so many people at the ground. Makes you proud of "grass roots" football and perhaps the game is not the most important thing in the world.

Re: Football thread 2015/2016
You stand a better chance of meeting true football supporters in the lower leagues than the heady heights of the Premier. It is now virtually impossible for me to get a ticket for any Foxes game due to plastic fans jumping on the bandwagon now that we are doing well. Where were they when we were in League One or even the Championship for that matter?
Friendship and camaraderie between supporters seems to be much more prevalent in the lower leagues, and you can still get a cup of Bovril and a decent pie without feeling ripped off.
I hope all goes well for your fellow supporter.

It's a problem for those true, regular supporters of clubs who have reached the Prem to be rewarded for their support during the lean years. Easy, I guess to subsidise season tickets to long-standing holders, but not so easy to acknowledge those who may have been long-suffering fans without proof of their support.oldbluefox wrote:You stand a better chance of meeting true football supporters in the lower leagues than the heady heights of the Premier. Re: Football thread 2015/2016
Good result and performance for Huddersfield at Reading according to the Radio Leeds commentary.
But what a shower the BBC are, we normally "watch" Sky sports while we listen to the commentary however Sky+ was recording 2 programmes from 9:00pm, so I checked the BBC red button at 7:45 and it was showing the normal 5 live scores feed, so switched over at 9:00 only to find it was now showing a supposed live feed of field mice for autumn watch with a scene of total inactivity in the hedgerows.
What a set of absolute muppets.

Re: Football thread 2015/2016
Towny is correct - by all accounts Huddersfield were well worth at least a point down at Reading last night. A shame that our inability to close a game down has cost us what could be a valuable 2 points come the end of the season. We recruited experience in the guise of Dean Whitehead exactly for this purpose - it's telling that he was suspended last night. Playing devil's advocate though, his (and others) absence led to the chance for some young players, starting their first league game for us - and it was this midfield that set us up for the win in the first place.
We'd have taken a point yesterday before the game, but once again, a draw feels almost like a loss.

Great isn't it ?! He did really well least year with limited resources but a few bad results and he is out the door, Just sums up one of the (many) things wrong with football these days.
What is it with Yorkshire clubs? They seem to change managers more often than the owners change underwear !

Wouldn't be totally shocked to see him back at The Valley Moby
They are managerless and he was very well thought of by the fans
Charlton's Belgian chairman seems intent on getting them relegated by changing the manager every five minutes
That never works ............................... ooh! hang on .............
I think Rotherham are doomed but besides that, it will go to the wire

Re: Football thread 2015/2016
It's fairly clear that Powell's sacking isn't just about the poor form/results this season.
There is a desire within the club to get more from our expensive academy, and the lack of progression to the first team has been a major frustration at board level. This is understandable, when you consider how well our young players are doing in their development league - 8 wins in a row (I think).
Even last night, when two youngsters were played, it was more through necessity than choice - due to injuries and suspensions.
There has been talk about "objectives not being met" which are apparently not just results based, so this would appear to reinforce my opinon about the academy.
Personally, I think that he could have been given another month or so.

It's possible. There's also talk of Lee Clark coming back to Hudds, but I just can't see that happening.... he hardly impressed in his time at Birmingham.Manoverboard wrote:You could be right there Barney but should, realistically, any Manager go back to a previous club ?barney wrote:Wouldn't be totally shocked to see him back at The Valley Moby ..
