Re: Current Affairs 2023
It’s about time ID’s were compulsory. Anyone not providing one when asked should be detained as Alien, not the ones from space.!
I had to carry one at all times when I was in the Army and Prison service, no problem.!
Btw, it was 52 yrs ago today I walked through the gates of Number 1 Trg Reg R E Cove Nr Farnborough, it started a life that changed me forever and turned me into a man.

Re: Current Affairs 2023
I have no problem with carrying ID. I have a driving licence, I have a bus pass, I have a passport. And as for voting, why should anybody be able to walk into a polling station, claim they're me and steal my vote without anyone checking? It seems to me the people most likely to gripe about it are probably the ones involved in committing voting fraud!

Identity cards for all long overdue and could put an ent to frauds that have a far more serious impact on the individual than any voting fraud. Shouldn't be any opposition as the principle seems to have been agreed.

Looking at the results from the local elections it looks as if the Tory's have taken a right old kicking. Not just to Labour but the Greens and the Lib/Dems. Poor Tory's , and as usual it ain't their fault.

I would take the ID card further to include blood group and DNA. In the event of accident or investigation look how much time could be saved by having those on a central database.

Hopefully it's a wake up call for them.paultheagle wrote: 05 May 2023, 12:50Looking at the results from the local elections it looks as if the Tory's have taken a right old kicking. Not just to Labour but the Greens and the Lib/Dems. Poor Tory's , and as usual it ain't their fault.
I can't say I'm any more enthused by the Labour Party than I am by the Tories. Past experience says they promise much, spend plenty and achieve little apart from the gap between the rich and the poor widening. It says little about their commitment to "the working man ".

We don't want the Greens to get anywhere near to running a Council or government, they will have us all on bikes and eating lettuces.

Campaigners are saying people didn't know they now needed ID to vote. Which planet have they been living on? If that's their level of awareness maybe better they don't vote!

Well Google seems to always know who I am and where I am at any time, so I have no problem with an election official checking it's really me.Ray Scully wrote: 05 May 2023, 12:31Identity cards for all long overdue and could put an ent to frauds that have a far more serious impact on the individual than any voting fraud. Shock horror, the Greens have taken control of Mid Suffolk Council.
It will be interesting to see how they will try to apply their green credentials to the residents of Mid Suffolk. They have never (to my understanding) be in control of a council.

I presume all of these Labour councils will excel now the Tory shackles have been taken off and we can all look forward to better times ahead. It's now up to them to show us what we've been missing. I hope they fulfil their promises.

If they don't it will be because the Torys trashed the economy.oldbluefox wrote: 05 May 2023, 19:53I presume all of these Labour councils will excel now the Tory shackles have been taken off and we can all look forward to better times ahead. Re: Current Affairs 2023
another 4 yrs of Southport under Labour rule from Bootle.!
They keep saying that Southport is the Jewel in Seftons crown.
I asked a neighbour to name one positive thing tha the council had done for Southport...I'm still waiting for an answer.

Re: Current Affairs 2023
Then again you could have a Tory council like we have in Croydon. Who because of their mismanagement have gone into administration, twice, and voted through a 15% Council Tax increase this year to help make up for the deficit and then they blame Labour. You would not believe the amount of money the Council have wasted, it's eye watering and it's everybody else's fault.screwy wrote: 05 May 2023, 23:34another 4 yrs of Southport under Labour rule from Bootle.!
