It's probably been buried under the rest of the news, but at the liaison committee the other day, after being put under a lot of pressure, he admitted that he had met with Lebedev weeks after the Salisbury poisonings, which no other officials present.
Several weeks ago there was an article related to a speech given by Putin ... who was cheesed off with Johnson's blossoming bromance with Zelensky. It was reported that Putin said something along the lines of 'I put him [Johnson] where he is and I can take him down again''. I do not speak a word of Russian so rely on translations given. I have the memory filed under 'Russian bot trolling the web' but todays events brought it back to mind.

I hope the new leader gets under Putin's skin as much as Boris obviously did.

For the sake of democracy in this country I would have preferred to have seen a proper investigation into Russian interference in UK politics. We know it is happening just as much as the UK interferes in elections in other countries ... but sadly someone somewhere chose not to look too deeply ... if at all.

Thinking about the PM transition, I guess one possible benefit of BJ staying on is that most of the potential candidates are now out of govt. This will give them the opportunity to concentrate on campaigning, which should enable the Tory Party to get the MPs voting completed and a final 2 candidates selected before Parliament breaks up for summer.
That should then enable them to fast track the party members vote, and we could have a new Party leader chosen maybe by mid August.

It is sad that Johnson could maybe have left with a small amount of dignity but he chose to blame the 'herd' rather than accepting the reasons as to why the herd moved ... despite giving him chance after chance after chance the clown was totally incapable of showing a single shred of honesty or integrity .. right up to the end he was the true conman of the gullible.

Just a thought ... Boris Johnson has been directly responsible for the collapse of 3 tory governments.
Is that a new world record? If so, it would be his greatest achievement.

Good point John…. there will be a lot of scurrying around over the coming weeks with a few of the non-contenders candidates positioning themselves in an attempt to gain favour when the top jobs are dished out.

Boris doesn't have to resign as Prime Minister, he has to resign as Leader of the Conservative Party, which is what he's done. The Conservative Party is the largest party in Parliament therefore it is the Leader of that Party who the Queen will send for once Boris has seen her to advise her to send for whoever is the victor of the forthcoming Leadership Election. As to who that will be I don't know but it's got to be someone with some sort of charisma - yes maybe Boris had too much - but in order to appeal to the voting public they have to have some presence. No grey men, or women for that matter.

Just announced on the 1pm news. Durham police have said the Sir Kier Starmer did not break any covid rules when he had a curry and a beer during lock down and will not be receiving a fine.

Some good news for a change.

It would seem even after resigning from your high level post you still get all the security and privileges as before. Watching the news lunchtime I see Rishi Sunak was still being collected from his home via government vehicle and security.

I would have thought having resigned you'd be back as a regular MP and be on your bike like the rest.

No don't tell me, it was just a token gesture of resignation and he's changed he's mind for now and acting as Chancellor caretaker :sarcasm:

Which is exactly what they said when they looked at this months ago.

A lot of time and money has been wasted on this

If you win will there be a party? And can you include free cruises for pensioners in your manifesto?

Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will the building of what I consider to be a sound Government policy (Levelling Up). Having accepted that many areas have fallen off the radar is the first step in putting things right. The Government have created the foundations to do this and now need time to build on what will be a long uphill road. With regard to Gove’s impute… no one really bothers about what the foundations look like but they are crucial if you want things to stand the test of time…this, I think is where Gove excels.
Hi Keith, it looks like Gove has ruled himself out of the running for PM ... you need to back a new donkey horse! :)

He alluded to this a few months back but I didn’t believe him ;) :) ….nevertheless I hope he finds himself around the top table when things resume.

I think it was Foxy who put forward Penny Mordaunt as a possible replacement for Boris and having done a bit of reading about her and listened to a few of her speeches I’m inclined to agree with him.

I shall be having a speculative tenner on her tomorrow

Look her up on YouTube giving Angela Rayner and Ian Blackford a verbal mauling. I almost felt sorry for them 😂

Thar she blows!!!!
And now she guns for Blackford.

Actually no I didn't, it was really quite enjoyable but you don't mess about with our Penny. Must be her Naval Reservist training.
