I see a number of political commentators saying, as I have been for some time, that now Boris has effectively gone Sir Hindsight needs to get his act together and come up with some clear policy statements. "I'm not Boris" won't hack it any more.

To make it more difficult we and he have no idea what the new Tory leader's position will be on a range of critical issues. Will they be a spender or a saver? Will they take a more conciliatory line with the EU or play hard ball? Where will they stand on Ireland, or Scottish independence? Sir H can't wait to play his previous "I wouldn't have done that" game. He has perhaps 3 months to stake his claim.

He won't take much heart from today's poll either which siggests his lead in the personal ratings is more because people dislike Boris than like him, so that could evaporate fast.

It really is time to put up or shut up. I am a genuine floating voter. Now is his chance to pitch for my vote while the Tories choose their new leader. October will be too late.

Given the total botch up of the economy this government has created it surprises me anybody would want to take on Johnson's poison chalice. Even at the start of a financial crisis they were totally out of ideas ... all Johnson did was go against his chancellor and the treasury as he carried out u-turns to adopt labour policy, which lets face it, was the only stated ideas on the table ... but then for the last few years the government have been working on a policy of 'make it up as you go along'. Maybe with a proper PM, instead of a clown playing at politics, we will see some actual policy coming from the tory party.

You do have to take heart from the media as more and more of the gullible appear to be waking up and realising they have been totally conned by the most incompetent, narcissistic and corrupt PM in living memory (according to a collection of comments coming from various members of his cabinet). Finally, after taking out the trash, we now have the opportunity to start making Britain great again!

I know you keep quoting the botched job the govt have done, mainly because of the increase in the national debt.
However I was reading that post covid the UK is the second fastest growing economy, only just 0.1% behind France.
I wonder what impact covid has had on other countries national debt, it would be interesting to compare their figures.
As for the media reports, I have seen quite a number of voters who are quite sympathetic to Boris, maybe not as many as his detractors, but a sizeable minority.
However I do agree that he has handled the accusations made against him, and number 10, very badly, and that's really his main fault, he responds without thinking, then having dug himself into a hole, he keeps on digging, until eventually he has made a mountainous issue out of a very mole hill of an offence.

If that's the Penny Mordaunt video, I can't be bothered to watch it again. It needed to be about half the length, and she should have introduced herself into it much earlier, as I had nearly fallen asleep wading through the patriotic goo.

However, I think she is one of the better candidates, as she is not completely tainted by Johnson.

The trouble is, that the various accusations that have been made against him, and in many cases proved, weren't exactly molehills to start off with.
I think his main fault is that he is a corrupt, mendacious, sexually incontinent, narcissistic liar. I won't rest easy until he is out of Downing Street.

I suspect that we don't know the half of it yet.

Boris Bashing was boring then. It's more so now. He's leaving. Let's talk about what we want in his place beyond Not Boris.

Do we want to cut taxes or not? How do we want the Irish issue addressed? Do we still support Ukraine? How do we get the NHS back on track post Covd? Do we let Scotland have its referendum? How do we boost the economy while tackling inflation? How do we take forward the so called levelling up agenda? Do we throw more money at the railways or insist on improved efficiency? Both main parties now agree Brexit is done so how do we capitalise on it? What's the next step on Covid? Etc etc.

Big questions for both the new leader of the Tories and for Sir Hindsight. More important than continuing to bash yesterday's man.
