Is this what the war is really about, mineral wealth being fought out on the world stage by a couple of megalomaniacs?

With ref to it being orchestrated, if I remember correctly, an aide or a reporter kicked it of by trying to belittle Volodymyr Zelensky by asking him if he had a jacket, indicating he was showing disrespect to the president and the oval office.
I was thinking that he was lucky he didn't turn up in fatigues. If anyone was being disrespectful, it was the toss who put the question.

Trump says Zelensky not agreeing to his and Putins peace deal, could lead to WW111. But IMO his decision to pause arms deliveries to Ukraine is far more likely to do just that. I can't see European nations letting Ukraine fall, but without western boots on the ground to help Ukraine, I cannot see how the West can stop them form losing.

It would appear that Ukraine may have been anticipating this and has been stockpiling arms and has enough to last for about six months - and currently six days is a long time in politics, let alone six months.

My feelings exactly. Trump says he wants to stop the killing but surely by taking away arms aid, largely on the defence of Ukraine, he will magnify the killing. It makes no sense whatsoever. All Zelensky was asking for was defensive cover largely because he doesn't trust Putin. After what Putin did over Crimea who can blame him?

Meanwhile in Gaza I understand Arab nations want no part in Trump's master plan to rebuild Gaza as ssome sort of Trumpesque playground. I don't blame them.

Putin's lap dog opens his mouth and anything is likely to fly out. :o The pair of them are bad news for the world order. So far it seems there's only Putin and Little Rocketman they have not picked an argument with.

It looks more likely that Zelensky will now go to Trump and except what he puts on the table. Trump will sign the mineral contract with maybe even better returns than before, after the exchange last week.
In some way, Zelensky has been pushed into a corner by the Americans, they knew what they were doing, maybe to get more favourable terms.
When you have friends like Trump and Vance, who needs enemies.

So it is OK for Labour to have to change their plans when "the world has changed" but it was not OK when the Conservatives did the same
