Anyone watch Simon Reeve last night? It was interesting to see how migrant workers in Spain were treated. Little wonder they all want to come here.

Re: Current Affairs 2023
Ah good old Sir Hindsight, or should I say Sir Hypocrite. Always moaning about the Tories chasing headlines. So today he's.... chasing headlines.
He's backing calls for a public holiday if the Lionesses win the World Cup.
Of course he is. Great, a lazy day for his grateful supporters. But never mind the struggling businesses who have to foot the bill, paying the wages for their staff to put their feet up.
And of course there's the inevitable drag on the economy when there's a public holiday. But when that comes through in the month's figures of course it will be the fault of 13 years of Tory economic policy so that's all okay then.
Gotta love him eh?

I know - but I still don't love 'im
There was another one from him a couple of days ago over cancer targets.
The NHS, cancer specialists and cancer charities had come up with a plan to simplify the targets for cancer care, which the Government accepted - not the word accepted. This was nothing to do with the Government, but Sir K was spouting off about the Government "moving the goalposts"!

I see that the delicate wokes are at it again

So actors cannot do their job of acting now and cannot wear makeup to portray the character they are playing - and this does not even offend those would have a legitimate complaint.

I saw that too. And Jewish characters can only be played by Jewish actors.
Which is fine by me if non-Jewish characters can only be played by non-Jewish actors too.

I just wish the TV companies would stop subjecting us to extreme Scottish accents, I would be quite happy for gorbals characters to be played with an old fashioned BBC accent.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 17 Aug 2023, 19:44I saw that too. And Jewish characters can only be played by Jewish actors.

It helps if directors didn't insist on actors muttering in low tones, often in the dark to the extent you haven't a clue what they're talking about. Atmospheric maybe but I gave up on the recent Kilby spy thriller for that very reason.
On the subject of strong Scottish accents I used to love Rab C Nesbit. Not sure whether you could get much stronger than that.

Totally agree foxy, I watched them all but had to wait for wifey to go to bed so I could turn the volume up. I watched them all and thoroughly enjoyed them.oldbluefox wrote: 18 Aug 2023, 07:23It helps if directors didn't insist on actors muttering in low tones, often in the dark to the extent you haven't a clue what they're talking about. Directors should be forced to sit in front of an ordinary TV in an ordinary living room with the lights on and family noise in the background to view each others programmes to see if they can follow what's going on!oldbluefox wrote: 18 Aug 2023, 07:23It helps if directors didn't insist on actors muttering in low tones, often in the dark to the extent you haven't a clue what they're talking about. In the "old days", when I worked in radio we of course had a pair of top quality loudspeakers to monitor the quality and levels of what we were putting out (as well as no fewer than four PPM level meters).
But we also had a small tinny mono loudspeaker, the equivalent to the transistor radio on which many of our listeners would be hearing the programme, to which we switched periodically to make sure it sounded okay there too.

We are forever turning the volume up and down, and it's annoying when a lot of scenes are in the dark and you can hardly make out the action.
Don't worry, be happy

Just been watching FBI on Sky, and the dialogue keeps getting drowned out with annoying background mood music. I don't object to mood music, but I dont want it drowning out the dialogue.

She may well try and take the easy way out of jail but my heart goes out to her parents, their life sentence has just begun.david63 wrote: 19 Aug 2023, 12:08Looks as if screwy's mates will in for a fair bit of extra pay when Lucy Letby arrives on Monday.
As for the parents of those young children one can only imagine what they are going through.

Re: Current Affairs 2023
Said the same to wifey last night. Her parents must be absolutely distraught. As parents how would any of us feel knowing your child could do that. Hopefully Joe Public won’t take it out on them. I’ve seen lots of parents visiting and you can see it in their eyes how sad they feel. I’ve also seen lots who appear not to give a damn.Onelife wrote: 19 Aug 2023, 13:19She may well try and take the easy way out of jail but my heart goes out to her parents, their life sentence has just begun.david63 wrote: 19 Aug 2023, 12:08Looks as if screwy's mates will in for a fair bit of extra pay when Lucy Letby arrives on Monday.

Once found guilty of such a horrendous crime, the guilty person must be made to face the judge as sentence is given. There should be no choice.
