Hands up all those that remember the lecture about making humorous posts on a chatboard and how difficult it could be for the reader to tell that the writer of the post was only joking.....

What this forum lacks is a decent choice of 'smillie's' to assist the author of a post who is trying to be funny and only joking so that everyone else who hasn't got a sense of humour knows that someone is only joking....or something like that.

Where do you get these personal agendas from every time some disagrees with you?

Reading the posts no one thought it was 'humorous'

Johnny, you ave been following me around for a while trying to pick holes and fault, but sadly on several occasions what has happened is that you have failed to read a post properly which has led you to make false inferences which, in your attempts to whinge at me you have actually insulted others as well. If you don't understand what I have posted why do you not ask what I mean before jumping on your high horse and making false accusations.

I will explain again, if you think I am angry or complaining then you are misunderstanding my post since most of the time I am being (or attempting to be lighthearted) ... I do not take chatboards seriously, they are fun ... try re-reading the post with a smile on your face and 99% of the time you will more accurately see what I am getting at. For some reason though you are assuming the opposite .. which usually is a reflection of the persona you are projecting.

I am satisfied there was nothing in the original post which was humorous. Rather it was scathing and judgemental and seriously denigrated the people referred to. No amount of fudging and fogging, not to mention personal snipes will alter my view, which was also echoed in other posts. Inferring that members do not have a sense of humour or worse for failing to see the humour/irony is insulting. A bit too clever fir your own good ken I'm afraid and as an attempt at humour it failed.

You are right, it obviously did go over some peoples heads ... maybe you had to be there as we rolled about laughing at it at lunch time ... to be honest I thought your first post on the subject started off hilarious when you said 'at the time of writing with 67 views and half a dozen replies,' .. I thought you had got the irony and were playing along (that really tickled me that opening) ... unfortunately I think a couple of negative posts had set the scene for the thread .. it is a shame because I still find it funny.

Dear Keefy,

Probably the funniest and most ironic reply in the thread. It all went downhill after this, that is until I arrived on the scene to add some gravitas.

Your chum in the north.

Am I the only one who can understand the annoyance felt by the Scrabble players? Although I never played the online version, I've got a Scrabble computer game which I enjoy playing (when Andrew doesn't feel like being beaten again ;) ). It can be very irritating when a familiar format gets changed ... I remember a few on here complaining when the old P&O site got meddled with.

HP, I remember on both cruise critic and MSE when they moved from infopup to vbulletin that everybody lost post counts, thanks counts etc. and there was uproar with some people saying they would never post on those boards ever again because the board owners were not willing to put their counts back etc. etc.

Personally if I had have been in the womans position, rather than complaining about it, I would see it as a challenge and an opportunity ... however I can see the point (to a very small degree) because my old sudoku game broke and the new one was slightly different ... but then I am used to being continually pulled out of my comfort zone.

That is why, despite several people proposing it, I have always been against things like karma/thanks/likes etc. counters on chatboards ... at some point some idiot will pull the old 'my point is more important than your point because I have more thanks than you' ... no seriously, it does happen

Holiday Planner - of course I think the same but at least you had the courtesy of a civil reply, rather than being accused of being without a sense of humour and lacking in irony. We can all agree to differ in our opinions but let it be a mature exchange rather than a point-scoring exercise. I still think that because Ken has a different outlook to those scrabble players, then they must be wrong, and he must be right. A fundamental mistake - how they reacted was right for them. To ridicule others because their opinions/reactions differ from one's own is - what? [insert your own description here]. As for post counts, likes etc. Ken, you cannot seriously expect me to believe that you are not secretly pleased that your many threads receive views and responses and that you are probably one of this forum's top posters?

With respect, Mo, given that you acknowledge Ken as being one of the forum's top posters, I would have thought you will have read enough of his posts by now to understand his style of posting. He has frequently made very serious comments using very serious language. The vocabulary he used in the OP should have indicated that he was in wind-up mode!

Good morning Robbie,

I can’t think of anything better than to wake up in the morning to find a message from one of the nicest chaps on the forum :D

The ladies are fine, especially the little one who finishes her last GCSE exam today.

mo, you will find I reply to posts in the manner in which I read them .. if I perceive them as being aggressive they will probably get a more aggressive response .. so if the poster feels the response is aggressive maybe they should look at their own posting style before whining about how others post. As far as the old 'point scoring' comment is concerned, that argument is usually put forward by people who are being overly aggressive in trying to make their point, but are failing to do so ... the most common reasons are poor comprehension skills; reliance on hearsay (or something they have made up) rather than fact; reliance on weak emotional arguments rather than logic; following an agenda.

Also I continually say ALL opinions are valid but, if you put them out for discussion, be prepared for discussion ... and if you don't like the counter arguments or can not back up your stance and decide to throw your toys around the place like a baby, then that is your problem, not mine.

But in answer to your last point, I am one of the least competitive people you will ever meet so post counts etc. mean nothing to me, they are irrelevant ... as I said to HP, I am on record many times saying that we should not introduce such things, I don't like them, never have ... I wish such irrelevancies were the most important thing in my life but the reality is that in my priority list they fall somewhere between me deciding on whether or not I should take a dump or if breaking wind would be adequate.

Agree Alan....

I tend to evaluate posts the same way as I tip horses (One good one in every five  ) With this in mind I didn’t think the opening thread was the best choice of material but neither did I take it seriously.... hence my initial post.

As with most threads you can read into them what you like, and yes, I can see why some of you have seized the opportunity to pick fault with Ken’s remarks but on a scale of bad judgment Ken’s comments hardly registered a reading on my scale. Reading between the lines it sounds like a little left over baggage was waiting to be off loaded.

Keep smiling all.... Ascot starts today.

Regards

OL
