I was aware that a few were duped way back when getting their USA ESTA's so for our UK Passport renewals I decided it best to go to the Post Office and get the ' form ' in order to check that the wwwdot that I was intending to use any time soon was correct ... as indeed it was.

Thanks for the feedback.

You've got me slightly concerned, Moby. We use https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/ to get our ESTAs, had an email back saying it's been approved. It cost around $9 each.
Hi Alan,

They do charge for ESTAs now. If it was the .gov website you should be ok.

Hi Moby, we paid £18.28 for the two of us, so that's probably around $14 each.

My previous post was with regard to my stupidity in using a 'copycat' site.

I am just reading a Sunday newspaper which has been helping people who used another such company , this one being a copycat Inland Revenue site.

Andrea, you are allowed to say "Mail on Sunday".... ;)

The general consensus was that action should be taken to shut such sites down - I heartily agree with that sentiment.

SS It is a sad day when anyone can set up a company with full intention of duping people.

In my eyes it is fraud but as always , they get away with it as in the small print there is usually something which covers them.

I am shattered. A short while ago I wrote where money had fraudulently been taken out of my current account.

A massive shock today as I found out transactions had been made on a credit card.

5 years ago I cancelled my CC but today I have discovered that a card was used in my name using an address that I moved from 4 years ago. 3 transactions made on December 30th totalling £246.50.

I feel as though I have been kicked in the stomach again.

But surely that's not down to you? You cancelled your card, you haven't taken out a new one, you haven't signed an agreement for one. Usually when they are using somebody's name and address they change one letter in the name so that they cannot be accused of personation, or whatever. Don't pay it, you are not liable in any way.

QB, As you say I am not responsible at all but the thought that someone can be so deceitful is frightening.

Although I cancelled the CC. Card Services inadvertently re issued a new card 2010-2013 which was sent to my old address. Although this card was never used they re issued a further card 2013-2016. It is this card that has been used.

The Bank fraud department have reassured me that these charges have been cancelled and because of the nature of one of the payments they are hopeful the person responsible will be found.

The only thing that the bank are concerned about is getting their money back - anything else is a bonus.

If you have not already done so you should report it to Action Fraud - the bank will not do it on your behalf.

David. As the Bank believe this is going to be a criminal offence they have advised me to go to the police. I have an appointment in the morning . In the event there may be criminal charges is this sufficient. ?

My understanding is that the local police do not take action in these cases as that is the responsibility of Action Fraud which is a department of the police. Action Fraud co-ordinate all fraud cases.

I was told this last year when I was the victim of fraud on my bank account.
