and Cliff Richard, Bruce Forsyth, and Leslie Garrett.
Talking of which, my neighbour's cat uses our garden as a loo every morning, then trots home for breakfast. I find it quite amusing; at least, unlike dogs, the little chap hides it.

Changing the bleedin clocks twice a year.
Just leave them on BST.

Give me ORIANA any day in preference to most of the fleet. The exceptions being: Oceana (which I prefer), and ARCADIA (I haven't sailed on yet)

I agree too. Changing it doesn't make any difference to the number of hours of daylight. It's just a pain.

Remember working in Aberdeen in the 70s when they last tried that...got light about 10 am. Dangerous for children going to school ( well they used to walk in those days!)

The answer to that is simple. Let Scotland adjust its school hours. I know it's dark up there but it's still the same amount of daylight, whatever the clock says. I imagine with the present system it must be pretty dim when they come home.

Better answer would be for Scotland to have voted "Yes" then they could have done what they liked with the clocks.

And they could have paid to support the crumbling oil industry that Alex Salmond thought was going to finance all his plans!

Are you a recruiting sergeant for the nationalists by any chance? Comments like that are music to their ears!
No am not Scots, nor do I live in Scotland - but I was living - and going to school - there during the experiment with British Standard Time.
But to turn the argument around, why not get rid of British Summer Time instead. As you say it's still the same amount of daylight per day.

Re: Things That Should be Uninvented
You're correct but that would mean we would have damned dark mornings from the end of Nov until the end of Jan, there would be no incentive to get out bed till 10:00am, OK for us pensioners but what about the workers?Mervyn and Trish wrote:I agree too. It is quite surprising, in 2015, just how many clocks we have in our house that need to be changed twice per year and I also wonder how many of our Members are viewing my message at something other than 08:08 ish

Machines in manufacturing which screw on jam jar lids so tight it's almost impossible to get them off. I have a pretty strong grip but even I have had problems so how the elderly manage I don't know.
Tip: Wearing a rubber glove gives you better grip or wrap an elastic band around the lid.
On the issue of changing clocks......................... The rest of Europe seem to cope with dark mornings (at least they did when I lived there). What's our problem? You get used to them.

Re: Things That Should be Uninvented
Wouldn't changing school or work hours somewhat defeat the object of avoiding changing the clocks? Surely 2 days a year where you have to remember to reset your clocks is not a major task. Personally I am reasonably happy with the current arrangement, however I would prefer winter time to start later and finish earlier, as it does in N. America.Mervyn and Trish wrote:The answer to that is simple. Let Scotland adjust its school hours. I know it's dark up there but it's still the same amount of daylight, whatever the clock says. Enough about clocks already! As a retired person I don't really care what the clock says, just get fed up with the months it takes to change them all! I usually find the last one when it's time to change them back again.

Crikey .. how many have you got
I don't have that problem as I dislike clocks, just two in my house .. a small one on the kitchen window sill which I don't really need as there's one on the cooker and one in the bedroom which again is rarely needed unless I need to set the alarm .. I do like watches though

Not than many really. It's usually things like the timer on the central heating I forget until I wonder why there's no hot water in the morning. Or, I've just remembered, the one in my car. And dammit yes, you've just reminded me of my best watch lurking in the drawer!Dancing Queen wrote:Mervyn and Trish wrote:Enough about clocks already! Come on, MoB! The travel alarm never need altering ( spring/autumn) because the battery has always run out & needs replacing. Now that is something that should be uninvented..the battery powered travel clock. Good old Westclock.

The clock in my new Mini is so complicated that it's only right for 6 months a yearMervyn and Trish wrote:Enough about clocks already!
