So you were into bad boy bands then Gill46, does Tony know about your wild past ?

My first concert/show was to see Dion and Del Shannon at Portsmouth Guildhall. I was about 14 or 15. Not long after that I went to Portsmouth again to see Brian Hyland and Bobby Vee. Little Eva was on with one of those acts but I can't remember which one. Does any one remember any of those American singers - it must have been about 50 years ago.

A couple of years after that I saw the Rolling Stones at Ryde IW.

I would have given my right arm to see Del Shannon but tragically he died young, same with Billy Fury I still have all their records on vinyl and my grandkids have been brainwashed into listening to them.

My first was the Edgar broughton band also in Cambridge in the late 60's. About the same time saw fleetwood mac and jethro Tull , there used to be a lot of bands playing in Cambridge in the 60's but all the venues have gone now.

Yes he knows all about my wild days. In our village I was known as a part time hippy! Monday-Friday I was sensible in school, then later work. But at the weekends...........

That little girl was on again this morning - they drove two hours to Birmingham to find the Fleetwood Mac concert was cancelled !
Fleetwood Mac are headlining at the IW Festival on Sunday (or supposed to be if they don't cancel due to illness). I was almost tempted to go this year but too tight to pay the prices. I will sit in my son's back garden and hope the wind is in the right direction to hear them. Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band plus Pharrell Williams are also appearing. The trouble is, as some of these singers age, their voices suffer e.g. Neil Diamond, Paul McCartney. Mind you, we are due for thunderstorms Thursday night in to Friday morning so I hope we don't get all the chaos we suffered a few years ago when it rained and rained. The traffic chaos has started already.

Saturday 18th April, 1970 - Ewell Tech. - Deep Purple...my ears are still ringing. It cost 15/- (75p) to get in. Soon after went to see Edgar Broughton at Surrey University. So began a long and continuing love of live music. Many notable gigs, including one David Bowie at Wallington Public Hall on Thursday 24th February 1972, for the princely sum of 50p...and the venue was half empty! This coming weekend I'll be at the Linton Blues Festival, headliners include the mercifully reprieved Wilco Johnson. "Long Live Rock!" :P 8-)

Had a freebie last night listening to Fleetwood Mac at the IW Festival as we sat in our back garden. Didn't need to go round to our son's garden although he lives nearer. Could clearly hear some of my favourite FM songs with the crowd joining in. It sounded as though everyone was enjoying their act from 9.30 pm until 11pm followed by an excellent firework display. We saw a helicopter arrive mid evening then heard it go over our bungalow about midnight so we assume that was FM arriving and leaving via that mode of transport - no roughing the Red Jet or Red Funnel car ferry for them.
