Steady on Moby, there's only so much cash release from Er in doors purse

To be honest I find there's enough knocking about to watch without having the need for Satalite TV/packages.

We already have a Panasonic DMR-EX89EB-K Freeview+ 400GB HDD DVD Recorder connected via a HDMI cable which performs well enough for me. .....
Ok, if you say so ;) , but if you get an aerial installer to fix a dish and 2 x LNB ( 1 pair of cables ) to connect via an F Plug to a Freesat TV then you will get the best possible picture at zero cost bar the initial installation of the disk ... SKY is NOT required in this instance.

Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

I find cable far superior to satellite, having had both and ditched Sky, but at the end of the day (or even part-way through the afternoon) all it gives me is a bigger range of things not to watch. If it wasn't for the Lady C, I'd get rid of the TV altogether.

That also sounds like lady J, or is that, if it wasn't for the TV she'd get rid of me :? :D

I understand she says something similar, "If it wasn't for the TV I would get rid of Shiney altogether"

We've got a 26". HD set and there is no discernable difference in picture quality between HD and non-HD channels, DVD or blueray. If you're getting a huge screen, it might make a difference but, if not, I wouldn't waste your money.
That being the case you deffo need a new TV set or to stop watching 70s sit coms

We presently have a full 1081 HD Panasonic Freesat TV with a 37" screen, it is linked to a satellite dish plus a roof aerial through a Panasonic DVD. There are vin ordinaire Freeview Channels plus Freeview HD channels plus Freesat channels. There is a huge difference between each of these.

To the OP I would advise ...

Get a top brand full definition HD TV, not Ultra, and a 4 x LMB linked satellite dish. Two options ;

a) With on-board Freesat plus a Humax HD recording device.

b) Instal the HD package from SKY that includes the HD+ box for recording purposes.

We presently have both of these options, albeit a temporary measure to be able to watch the footy while t'Hornets are in the Prem.
We have a similar set up in that we have a LG HD 1080 Freesat TV with a 46" screen, this is connected to our old Sky satellite dish ( no longer have Sky TV) via a dual cable to a Humax HD Freesat recording box, we also have a Panasonic blue ray player connected.

We have an old roof Ariel not suitable for Freeview, so we don't use the Freeview. At some time we may get a new roof ariel suitable for Freeview.

We also have the TV connected to 'Bose' Solo 15 TV Surround Sound System.

In our village it is considered infra dignitatem to display these monstrous 40" televisions.
They are normally only seen in the houses of a different class, and then usually affixed to the chimney breast :)
