Re: Euro 2016
On Harry Kane taking corners Ray Wilkins, ex England midfielder, has said that if a midfield player cannot kick a ball 40 yards, unopposed into the penalty area at a height where you have the opportunity to score you shouldn't be playing international football. Well said.
Are we surprised that a team dominated by Spuds has bottled it in the end!!!

Re: Euro 2016
Why did Roy only play one goal scoring forward when he had Vardy and Rashmore sat doing nothing? Was Kane the only one who could swing the ball in from the corner?
Maybe Roy was saving it all up for Wales on Thursday and it's all part of his master plan. Or maybe not!!!

Re: Euro 2016
My youngest brother is in France for the football but is staying a 2 hour drive from Marseilles, on the way to the ground they had a barrage of bottles thrown at the car, I have never seen England fans throwing bottles at their own supporters cars and there are gangs of hard line Russian and Marseilles thugs looking for trouble.
This said there is no need for retaliation.
I think Roy should have shown his Rovers the highlights of the Wales match at half time they might have learned something from it.

Just watching the news - looked pretty scary when the Russian supporters charged the England supporters at the end of the match.Raybosailor wrote:My youngest brother is in France for the football but is staying a 2 hour drive from Marseilles, on the way to the ground they had a barrage of bottles thrown at the car, I have never seen England fans throwing bottles at their own supporters cars and there are gangs of hard line Russian and Marseilles thugs looking for trouble.

Problem is, these guys are not football supporters (from either side) they just turn up at the big occasions looking for a good punch up

Apparently, the Ruskie mob were supposed to have been "specially trained hooligans". What? Is there a Yobbo School in Moscow or something ?!

A few comments on Twaddle recently about the footy violence:
"Tennis fans never get violent, unless the organizers run out of strawberries and cream."
"They get absolutely smashed at rugby internationals and it remains a family friendly environment."
"It’s why I follow motor sport, if the crowds invade the circuit they get run over."

Re: Euro 2016
I saw a report recently that not only are the Ruskies specially trained, many are trained by the government - some are said to be in the police and the army !! Is it another Putin plot to undermine the West ?!

At home, they now know they will get banged up and banned from footy for life but all the French seem to want to do is fire off tear gas and water canons. Yes, I know they picked on a few easy targets for a token jail sentence at the weekend but they have not really tackled the root of the problem

Re: Euro 2016
I shall be steering well clear of this thread - and Twaddle - this afternoon in a vain attempt to avoid finding out the score of this afternoon's game until I can get home and watch it !!

Exactly Cubie, I follow ice hockey probably the roughest sport on the planet but you never see trouble in the crowd. In the early days of the Nottingham Panthers I was a volunteer and after some of the brawls on the ice we had to go on and scrape the frozen blood off the ice in-between periods, but the same players would be sharing a drink in the bar after the game. I traveled all over the UK with my two young kids to watch the ice hockey and we always got a warm welcome and our kids always felt safe.qbman1 wrote:A few comments on Twaddle recently about the footy violence:

When you think of the hundreds of thousands of fans that have arrived in France from all over Europe there is a very small percentage of them that are out to cause trouble. I personally don't believe there are that many England fans that have gone over there to cause trouble but they just can't resist retaliating when somebody has a go.
My young brother and his friends are based on a camp site about 2 hours drive from Marseilles where there are fans from all the nations taking part including Russians and he says it is one big party with loads of alcohol involved but no sign of trouble. Two local police officers turn up on site now and then and have a drive round often sharing a joke with the fans, this is how to police the situation but I think when the Gendarmes are involved things get out of hand. Perhaps the Gendarmes have too much power and don't know how to handle it, I have witnessed the same in Spain where you have 3 levels of policing from the Police Locale to the Police Nationale and then the Gaurdia Civil and each one takes a tougher stance than its junior.
Lets get back to topic and look forward to what promises to be a great game with a young England side all wanting to prove themselves and probably the best Wales side anybody here has ever seen.
I predict 2-1 to England but a lot of my predictions have been useless so far as my position in the BBC Predictor League shows but I did score 90 points yesterday with two correct scores and a correct result so who knows ?. It has to be said though that Cheryl (who knows nothing about football) is 50 points ahead of me, it hurts.

Re: Euro 2016
Quite so - a very small minority are involved but I think the police and the media are just out to highlight the "trouble" caused by "England fans".
My money's on an England win too - but just don't tell me whether I'm right this afternoon !

Come on England!!!
No Vardy again................
How can you afford to have a 24 goal in form striker on the bench in favour of some who have hardly played? Why does he persist in playing players out of position? But Roy loves Spurs. Who was it who said, "if Woy keeps on filling the team with Spurs players even if we reach the final we will finish third"

Just seen something about Rooney seeing a lot of the ball. Sounds like he needs some attention to his shorts

And England having to defend their box. Isn't that a foul, kicking them in the box?
