Can we move on to the Twin Towers and the strange way they collapsed? Or perhaps JFK?

Re: Facebook Groups
Just checked & yes you are right, this group can be viewed as a non member or if logged out anyway. I have never seen the point of a closed group myself...why would anyone want to join something they cannot see the conted of?....they do though!Romig1 wrote:But this forum is open for anyone to view the posts, without joining. The FB closed groups are inaccessible to me as a non-member.

I post on the unofficial P&O FB group. I didn't realise it was because I wasn't welcome elsewhere, silly me!
I thought it was because I was amongst like minded peole who love cruising - a very friendly place though it has to be said.
Why on earth is this even being discussed here?

Have you asked to join another group? I did say unwanted or just unaware...& as for friendly that must be a different definition to the majority that left/ stopped posting there. It got so unpleasant that 200 people just ceased or drastically reduced their input.

Re: Facebook Groups
I'm aware of the other groups but didn't see the point in requesting to join if I'm honest. It felt a bit like a few people had a hissy fit and stormed off taking their ball with them and I can't be doing with that kind of behaviour.
I have found that group to be friendly, about on a par with this forum in my opinion. If there have been any spats etc. then I must have missed them.

Romig, yes, I can't connect to Facebook at the minute ... not that I use a site like that which is full of cliques and groups ... which is the raison d'etre for Facebook

Apart from my personal Facebook page which only family and friends can see, I have found that members of Facebook groups are equal to each other, that is, I haven't experienced cliques and groups which have excluded me within the Facebook pages I am a member of.Kendhni wrote:Romig, yes, I can't connect to Facebook at the minute ... not that I use a site like that which is full of cliques and groups ... which is the raison d'etre for Facebook

Re: Facebook Groups
No Debbie it wasn't like that at all, not a few, the vast majority decided the group was becoming so unpleasant it was becoming unworkable. It was in no way any sort of hissy fit, we all loved it there, but the bloke down as admin wouldn't take any action over nasty posts. Reluctantly another group was formed & became an instant hit. There were problems after the founder suffered a bereavement & other life setbacks but after a bit of sorting out it's running along nicely & has more members than ever, but like the P&O Unofficial one it's active members that count, P&O have about 3,000 members but maybe 10/20 regulars posting now?Debbie W wrote:I'm aware of the other groups but didn't see the point in requesting to join if I'm honest. Re: Facebook Groups
From what I observe most of those 200 are back posting on it, also from what I observe, now seems to be a very friendly site, even without moderators. Also appears to have a faster growing membership than the closed groups.JOHNTHED0G wrote:dDebbie W wrote:I post on the unofficial P&O FB group. If the original closed fb group was such a success and so user friendly, why has that now split into two groups, with the new breakaway group also having over 200 members, including the person who started the original breakaway group and some of its original moderators.
It would appear that these break away closed groups are not all the sweetness and light, and as friendly, that some would try to have us believe.
Don't think you can beat fb pages or forums like this, whereby anybody can read, member or not, only then can you really know the truth of what is being posted.

Re: Facebook Groups
Well I will try to explain again but please don't accuse me of repeating myself....
The group formed was done so to avoid all the nastiness on the old one, it was & still is very good with over 300 members, 70+ more that when there was a split because one person left before he was removed due to increasingly bizzare posts & behaviour. You Delboy would not know anything about the content of these groups, as I may be wrong, but you are not a member? I have alluded to why the original person of the group stood down, bereavement & other life changing events, this has to be respected even though difficult to follow. The original group formed could be described as breakaway I suppose, but it was really just a way to avoid those who usually spoil such groups. I tend to agree that it is better to be open, but the members wanted to keep it closed mainly due to being concerned about being able to speak freely, remember that on FB people have to use their real names or at least most have to.

Does any of this really matter? Are we not better debating the pros and cons of Facebook which I find impossible to navigate about and quite uninspiring?

Re: Facebook Groups
I joined Facebook in order to read posts on the P&O Facebook page and that's as far as I go. Clearly a lot of people like it but I prefer a forum such as this, partly because I know most of the people on here in a cyber sort of way, and hopefully will meet some of them one day.
It seems that as soon as they find out which cruise I am on they all go and cancel!!!
