There was an article in the paper the other day which seemed to indicate that most phone companies now offer a vetting facility which effectively blocks unwanted calls. The Sky Shield which I use only lets calls from approved numbers straight through, any from a new number go to a short quick vetting feature which asks for their name, you then hear this and can either accept or reject, and also add to your approved list if you want. This service is free from Sky and many other providers.

Hi all,

Just received a scam call saying...."due to illegal activity on our internet it was being disconnected in 24hr." Please dial 1 to speak to an adviser.

I of course declined to do this, however what was clever about this scam is that the recorded message used the same ladies voice you would normally expect to hear from a BT recorded message.

Must be my week for spam calls. I've now had one on my mobile with a recorded voice saying "you had a accident which wasn't your fault. Is this correct?"

I wonder what their voice recognition software made of "bu**er off".
