Off to sing in my first Christmas concert in a few mins...
A bit early - not even Advent Sunday til tomoro, but this was the only day they could get the hall for the old people's tea party!

Another couple of days and at least it'll be December. Another visit to Costa on Friday subjected us to the very worst version of Hark the Herald Angels say I've ever heard. On the plus side I bought something in Ryman for £1.99 and was delighted to get 20% off in their Black Friday sale. Didn't even have to fight anyone to get it either. Now what can I spend my 40p on when the New Year sales start next week?

That was frivolous of you Merv. I bet the moths in your wallet didn't know what hit them

It can't be any worse than the renditions of Happy Birthday and Congratulations we regularly hear in the MDRs

I know what you mean Shiney, but I can forgive live music if it's a bit naff, especially sung by amateurs. These, however, were professional recordings someone at Costa considered good enough to play over and over again. It's the staff I feel for really. They'll probably hear it ten times a day for the next 26 days and if they don't all turn into Scrooges and Grinches it will be a Christmas miracle (make a good film title that).

Re: When should Christmas start?
I must be going soft in my old age because I am getting as enthusiastic about Christmas as Suespud and Gill. Admittedly I'm not doing anything on the food and decoration side but we have signed up for 3 Victorian Christmas Fairs. Yesterday was the first one when we went across to Portsmouth Dockyard to the Fair there with people in Victorian clothes and there was a snow machine and a pipe and drum band - it was great fun. Mind you, the trip back to the Isle of Wight mid afternoon on the catamaran was decidedly hair raising.
Next weekend is the Victorian Fair at Osborne House and we are going to that and then the following weekend we are going to the Christmas Market in Bath. We are really getting into things this year. After that we have our Christmas Cruise.
I hope the awful weather at the weekend didn't stop everyone getting on with their preparations, especially decorating trees or the outside of their houses.

With luck it might have at least delayed it until December!Kenmo1 wrote:I hope the awful weather at the weekend didn't stop everyone getting on with their preparations, especially decorating trees or the outside of their houses.

Re: When should Christmas start?
I managed t find a moment when it wasn't blowing a gale or lashing down with rain to dress the Christmas tree in the front lawn, but Tony was climbing the Poplar tree in the rain, to hang the lights on that one - all 46m of them! We had a brief "switch on" last night, just to see how they looked - very pretty by the way!Kenmo1 wrote:

Took us two solid days to get put our trees and decs up...with the twins Max and Ruby (age 2) and Harry (age 6)helping us..
I am now clearing up and tweeking..before I take pictures.
I am liking my front room and back room trees....
but not liking the hall tree....the grandchildren picked the colour scheme for that one
....coloured lights..naff decorations...all the tat..dare I say ..which the kids love
But when youngest came this morning, his eyes lit up when walked into the hall...
So I will just go along with it....

The National Grid have had to bring one of their mothballed power stations back on line to cope with the demand!
