Labour voters should understand it's their party which broke it. They brought in the disastrous GP contract that reduced out of hours cover. They slashed the numbers of beds in our new hospital which now can't cope. They said they'd strengthen care in community settings then didn't.

Re: The Children's Off Topic Thread
I think NHS triage should work a bit like the P&O boarding process, if you are a genuine emergency you get a green card and priority treatment,(on time arrival) if you need treatment but not urgently you get a yellow card and will have to give way to new green cards,(early arrival) and if you really could have waited for a GP's appointment or are drunk you get a red card and may never be seen.(loud mouthed dinner bore).
And of course everyone should produce a valid photo ID before they get any treatment, unless they submit a credit/debit card.

Re: The Children's Off Topic Thread
A new series started last week called 'Hospital' on BBC2 (Wednesday 9pm). A real eye opener and juggling act for beds. You can see the frustration on the surgeons faces as they are held back from getting on with planned surgery until they get the green light to carry on because of lack of beds.
These are highly skilled professionals being paid a fortune (rightly so) to sit and wait around with their hands tied because of the bed crisis in the NHS. And by the time they get the go ahead it's too late, their allocated theatre time has gone so the poor patient is sent home.
A recommend watch, if you like that sort of thing. It's not just about the politics of running a hospital but also some graphic images of surgery, so be aware if you're a bit squeamish.

This is a BBC production and with their extreme left wing bias then I assume the editing will be done to ensure that the points you have highlighted are the main theme of the programme.
The BBC, a bit like the Guardian on steroids.

I have worked in NHS hospitals for the last 41 years, and the problems illustrated are totally real, not biased editing. Similarly Theresa May's berating GP's for not running a 24/7 service is totally missing the point. In many areas, there simply aren't enough GPs to provide such a service - without either working stupidly long hours, or drastically cutting the number of them on duty during 'normal' surgery hours.

Re: The Children's Off Topic Thread
They may feel real to those closest to the grindstone, but those of us who can view things from a distance want to know why A&E visits are so high, when even the RCS admit that over 30% should not be visiting A&E at all.
Throwing billions of pounds at the NHS may make things appear better for a time but the underlying problems of how the country can provide the sort of health care that everyone wants without going bankrupt are still there.
We need major structural changes to the NHS and social care, as well as drastic re-education of the NHS customers if free health care is to be preserved. Perpetual bleating by the health care unions and professional bodies to the media in an effort to blackmail the government into throwing even more cash at the problem, is not the answer.

If you and Merv are looking to earn a bob or two by sending the trouble & strife out to work, there's a company called Naturist Cleaners who are paying £45 an hour for women prepared to work butt naked

Looks like we were on the next table to Popeye and Cornmill Girl in the MDR on Oriana. Didn't realise until I got back and saw their avatar photos !
