Re: Football 2013
Oh come on Frank, they would need a calamitous end to the season to not get the auto spot.
Having said that, anything is possible in football.
On a slightly differntent note, Maidstone Utd in the Ryman Premier had 2,700 for a league game last week.
Back in the day, they used to be our local rivals (before someone raped their finances and made them go bust)
We'd have crowds of over 16 k and the place would be jumping
They are on the way back now but play on a 3G pitch and the Conference have said no.
It's nothing like Luton's old plastic one and is deemed good enough for Champions League but not the Skrill league.
Go figure ?

Frank's fitted out his back garden with the stuff (cheap deal from Luton + a free bottle of Ricky Hill's shower gel) but he can't get in the back door because of the goal posts!!

Re: Football 2013
Years ago my My Mum was on first name terms with Ricky Hill, and the Stein brothers as well. That plastic pitch was worth a goal start in any hme game because of the bounce, but Ricky Hill's aftershave was £2.25p a pint in the Hatters bar.
All the same, losing at home to Woking! Delia Smith's second team.

Re: Football 2013
I am now nervously doing some calculations and hoping that Cambridge and Grimsby drop a few points. Luton need 17 points from 9 games to be certain of beating Cambridge, and 14 points to be certain of beating Grimsby.
Luton play Grimsby on Tuesday night...... why is there no smiley for worried?

Re: Football 2013
Well we got thumped yet again. Our 3 worst results this season have all been away from home and a kick off time of 12:45 on a Saturday dinner time.
A very limp performance and goes to show we are punching above our weight at the moment and hopefully it will be addressed in the close season.
Still got the FA Cup to go for ..... Can we c@ck that up...let's wait and see..

I've always found Billy Davis a particularly odious little man but to replace him with the equally odious Warnock takes some believing.
Florist board of directors obviously don't consider the fans when making their appointments
Who after Warnock ? Steve Evans of Rotherham I expect.

Re: Football 2013
Another 10 points from 9 matches and we are mathematically up. I just hope we don't get the jitters like last year. We've got Yeovil tonight at home so should be 3 points but they will be scrapping for Championship survival. But if we can't beat the likes of Yeovil what chance will we have against Chelski?
As for the title Burnley are pushing us hard so we'd need another 20 points to be certain although neither us or them are going to win every game.

Re: Football 2013
I'm getting seriously unhappy at Town's ability to gift goals to the opposition.
Tonight we scored two good goals, but gave Boro two goals, from poor passes directly to them in our defensive third, one giving their player a one-on-one with our keeper!
This follows gifting the ball to Blackpool on the edge of our area for their solitary (and winning) goal on Saturday, and gifting two out of Blackburn's 4 goals the week before (when they beat us 2-2).
So, by my reckoning, our inability to clear the ball when in danger has cost us 4 points in the last 3 games. It can't be beyond the management to rectify this problem, yet it appears to be so.
On a brighter note, I could support Leeds!

Re: Football 2013
Phew!! We didn't play well tonight and were lucky to get an injury time equaliser courtesy of Kasper Schmeichel whose header hit the bar, bounced over the line (?) and Wood bundled it in to make sure.
We had plenty of chances but wasted them. Worst performance for a long while but we got out of gaol.
And Florist lost again!!!
We seem to struggle against the bottom teams. Thank goodness we've got Burnley on Saturday.

Phew, out of jail there Foxy.
They do it on purpose I reckon.
Funnily the Gills always struggle against the lower teams
Lose at home to Crewe on Saturday. Beat MK Dongs away on Tuesday.
Figure that one out ????

Re: Football 2013
Yet another crucial goal conceeded at 90+X to deny us the 3 points
If they carry on like that I may have to support battling Yeovil, interestingly the three teams at the bottom of the League all have 32 points.

Re: Football 2013
well we gave that one away
after a fantastic start we managed to lose 2:1 due to a very late winner from Ipswich
6 yellow cards were handed out, sounds like a scrappy game

Re: Football 2013
All credit to Yeovil, they came to do battle and to play for a win. Many teams in their position try to batten down the hatches, play for the draw and hope they get a lucky breakaway for 3 points. Yeovil didn't so good luck to them. They deserve to stay up if they play like that every week. I expect there will be one or two shock resuilts over the coming weeks as everybody scraps for points. I just hope we're not on the end of too many of them.
We got an injury time goal so we were pleased with that but it's a rotten feeling to concede one in the dying minutes. That's how we felt 12 months ago Mob.

Re: Football 2013
Well, 4:1 will have to do
So, have we hit form at the right time zooming as we have into the 11th slot ... the clincher will be next Saturday when we play Burnley and, of course, our ex manager.
ps ... another great result for OBF
