Re: Last One to Post Wins
A record idiotic substitution from Sainbubs today. No haggis, so offered me black pudding instead! That's like substituting turnips for fillet steak.
They also substituted the three one litre bottles of own brand disinfectant at £1.25 a bottle, a total of £3.75 for three litres, with two half litre bottles of posh stuff at £1.50 each, a total of £3.00 for one litre. Cunningly avoids their substitution price guarantee.
Needless to say I've nipped out to Morrisons and the duff subs will be rejected.

Re: Last One to Post Wins
Any views on this idea we should open our car doors with the opposite hand to avoid knocking cyclists off their bikes? I tried it today and concluded it's rubbish. Once I'd got my wrong hand on the door handle and twisted round as recommended, not easy for an old git with a creaky back, my view was substantially obstructed by the door pillar. I can see far more of what may be coming by using my door mirror and a glance over my shoulder to check the blind spot, as I always do.

Very tricky when they're blind in both, as some round here seem to be.Manoverboard wrote: 26 Jan 2022, 08:53Bit of a problem if the driver is blind in their right eye ... just seeing saying

If you are supposed to look backwards then it's the left eye that will be on the outside, and I have only partial vision in that, so it will be a potential problem for me.Manoverboard wrote: 26 Jan 2022, 08:53Bit of a problem if the driver is blind in their right eye ... just seeing saying

Possibly more so for Jeremy Vine passing you on his bike....towny44 wrote: 26 Jan 2022, 16:04If you are supposed to look backwards then it's the left eye that will be on the outside, and I have only partial vision in that, so it will be a potential problem for me.Manoverboard wrote: 26 Jan 2022, 08:53Bit of a problem if the driver is blind in their right eye ... just seeing saying

So if you intend to turn left or right you must allow cyclists behind to overtake you first. With my indicator flashing, how long do you wait for a hesitant cyclist to pass, if he will at all.

So are they now encouraging cyclists to pass on the inside and risk death if the motorist hasn't read the rules? "I had the right of way" doesn't make a great grave inscription. It's all very well drawing up a hierarchy of road users but there's only one winner in a car versus bike scrap.Ray B wrote: 26 Jan 2022, 17:27So if you intend to turn left or right you must allow cyclists behind to overtake you first. Re: Last One to Post Wins
There is only one safe cycle lane, and that's one that's totally separated from the roads.
A bit expensive to set up, but if cyclists want it, then presumably they will be happy to pay for it with a levy on cycle licenses?

Does it depend on the car ?towny44 wrote: 26 Jan 2022, 16:04If you are supposed to look backwards then it's the left eye that will be on the outside, and I have only partial vision in that, so it will be a potential problem for me.Manoverboard wrote: 26 Jan 2022, 08:53Bit of a problem if the driver is blind in their right eye ... just seeing saying

A good left eye can surely see no more than either eye looking in the driver's side mirror ?

Councils spend thousands on cycle lanes and they still use the road saying "cause I can".
Towny=but if cyclists want it, then presumably they will be happy to pay for it with a levy on cycle licenses?.
You should put that on Stephen's 'morning all' that is so funny.

I see the new rules also say cyclists are not obliged to use cycle lanes if they are provided. Do they have zero responsibility for their own safety? Cobblers.

At a junction, who will volunteer to step into the road to see if the car will stop. And report back if it did.
