My son has a heightened sense of smell and when we get out of the lift he can always tell me who of our fellow passengers are of the 'Great Unwashed Variety'

Regarding smoking on board - have a look at the P&O forum on Cruise Critic. There is a posting saying they have written to P&O to complain about smoking and also about a steward entering their cabin on the boarding afternoon and interrupting shall we say, an intimate moment! It's under the heading of a Ventura mini cruise. Most of the answers are not particularly supportive of the complainer.

I read this and felt sorry for the couple. What a shame. Sadly, there are always some cruel smart-ass responders who have no sympathy. It is disappointing to have things occur and even more disappointing to know that most of the things could have been avoided. The dining room fiasco was completely avoidable. Had my husband and I been intending to be intimate, I would have found a do not disturb sign or written my own, but in any case, I feel the steward should have waited until one of them answered the door. On the subject of smoking, it is pretty disappointing not to be able to breathe fresh air on one's balcony. I do appreciate that smokers have a right to smoke, but non-smokers have a right not to passively smoke. In effect, the couple might well have just had a picture window cabin.

What I don't understand is that if they had locked the door, how the cabin steward got in. I know on the Aurora if you lock your door, although your personal key card will open it the cabin steward's will not.

Up against the cabin door is surely the fail safe method, so when the cabin steward knocks the door one's OH can say " Not today, thank you " ... be it to the cabin steward or indeed to you.
