We went out for a stroll before dinner one evening, walked through the area where the smokers were and when I went inside I could smell it on my hair and clothes and I was only out there for seconds

As we usually book an inside cabin, smoking on balconies has not affected us, but I agree with whoever said the Prom Deck will become impassable and holding your breath doesn't actually seem to help.

It's the same outside of shops on our High Street now. The more areas you ban smoking from, the more concentrated the smoke will be where it IS allowed. At least on balconies it was relatively diluted.

But not for those on the neighbouring balcony, and they may be less than two feet away.ItsmeAnnC wrote:At least on balconies it was relatively diluted.

The solution to shop and office workers smoking outside entrances is to ban smoking by employees 500m away from premises.

Not really practical, and legally unenforceable. The Monocled Mutineer wrote:The solution to shop and office workers smoking outside entrances is to ban smoking by employees 500m away from premises.

If I read that correctly. Your own workers would not be able to smoke on your doorstep but workers from 500m away and any passers by would be able to. Very interesting. The Monocled Mutineer wrote:The solution to shop and office workers smoking outside entrances is to ban smoking by employees 500m away from premises.

Or two companies 510m apart could swap smokers. What a drag.oldbluefox wrote:If I read that correctly. I agree that a smoking room inside is not the answer. I wouldn't want to be the person who had to go into the room and clear away the ashtrays etc and what about the smell drifting out the door when the door is opened, or left open by smokers to try and get some air in. Nothing worse than stale smoke air.
Well done P&O, just need to ban it on the prom deck now.

They could site it on the top deck with its own funnel.arcadialover wrote:I agree that a smoking room inside is not the answer. I just love seeing the silly few , who walk past the smoking area flapping like dying birds, making all sorts of stupid noises, coughing and spluttering , muttering and grumbling ,they look and sound pathetic
Priceless
It is a good idea to ban smoking on balconies, that way, the next person in that cabin, does not have to worry about the smell.

No pleasing everyone. I've never smelt smoke on a balcony yet when P&O decided to ban it you're not satisfied. If you don't like smoke don't go where the smokers are and complain about it. However that doesn't seem to please everyone. You cannot have it all your own way. However I have smelt a certain herbal substance being smoked on balconies - reported it - nothing done. Went to too many parties in the sixties so I know what it smells like.

Such a lovely image for any retailer - ferret looking staff smoking on the pavement outside the store.

Dear Mr Kane
why do you feel the need to insult smokers at every given opportunity?
I thought you had the vocabulary to be able to post in a more interesting way, it appears not

You will never please everybody.... however, I do think that they should have bought it in next year in the new brochure for 2015...
No doubt someone will have a go at me for saying that but at the end of the day a lot of people may have already booked and now P & O have changed the goalposts half way through.

Every morning I walk about 2 minutes from the railway station to the nearest underground station. In front of me are hordes (well maybe not quite that many as I'm usually an early bird) of people all puffing away as hard as they can until they get to the underground. Then the butts of the half-smoked cigarettes are chucked onto the floor in the entrance.
I do find it a tad irritating having to inhale their smoke as I'm no longer fast enough to get ahead of them to avoid it.
I find it quite amusing that these people are so desperate for a fag that they end up chucking half the damn thing away!

For once, DK, I must disagree with you. What about those of us who have to walk past people burning tobacco, when we have conditions that are aggravated by the ingestion of smoke?Dark Knight wrote:I just love seeing the silly few , who walk past the smoking area flapping like dying birds, making all sorts of stupid noises, coughing and spluttering , muttering and grumbling ,they look and sound pathetic

I would think that there will be something in the small print that says they can.

If people want to smoke it is their prerogative - I just avoid the smoking areas outside pubs etc. For me personally me this is a good move as on the GE we paid a huge amount of money for a balcony and could not use it as we had a cigar smoker next door and the smell drifted over and permuated the air day and night, could not even have the door open as the smell came in the the cabin, so did not use the balcony for 17 days!!!!

SS you misunderstood me, it is their prerogative to smoke, but there is a time and a place and balconies where other people are very much affected it not the right place, whether in a hotel, cruise ship or wherever. BUT people do smoke (although I do not know why and how they afford it), so they do need small corner to indulge their habit - IMOSilver_Shiney wrote:JenniC wrote:If people want to smoke it is their prerogative - I just avoid the smoking areas outside pubs etc.

Jenni, what I was getting at is that, if by burning tobacco on their private balcony, they are spoiling the enjoyment of your private balcony, they shouldn't be doing it.
