Pity there was no nomination for Michael Portaloo and Diane Abbott. In days gone by I used to enjoy 'This Week'. With Andrew Neil in charge and that awful couple cosying up to each other it was transformed into a political pantomime which I no longer watch. The smarmy and supercilious Diane Abbott and her hypocrisy makes my flesh creep. Some must really like her otherwise they would not vote for her but not me.
I was taught to be cautious

Back to MM's original survey. I would have liked to see Julia Bradbury and Kate Humble on there as well. They both irritate me every time I see them on TV. I agree about Diane Abbott, ( and Harriet Harperson) but she wouldn't be in my top ten.

With the the disliked mother-in-law (both from myself, her own daughter and the rest of her family) and Mr Ed Milliband (for political reasons - although some Labour leaders I have admired such as Tony Blair), all the options I included in my poll (system constrained to 10 options) were included as it was my personal observation / opinion that these people invoked strong reactions from time to time from others.

Clearly some have replied on here with personal examples that perhaps irritate, but these do appear to be more about style than substance (frothy, bubbly, vapid TV "personalities" for example), whilst others have clearly nailed a political bias against certain figures because of their views or the "constituency" they represent or who they believe they "speak" for.

Those who annoy me but who perhaps have the admiration of the "saloon bar" bore or the "chattering classes"

Nigel Farage
Nick Griffen ( a particularly odious little squirt)
Hand-wringing Polly Toynbee
Gordon Ramsey (although an outstanding chef)
Jeremy Clarkson
Claire Perry MP (a "looker") but there is just something a bit irritating about her - a bit too pushy - and something slightly "unsavoury" about her.

I've remembered 2 people that really irritate me.

The breakfast DJ's on my local radio station.

Their so called witty banter is so pathetic shallow and trite, and fully of artificial guffaws as they pretend to laugh at their attempts at wit.

I have my clock radio tuned to their station, as I'm not good at getting up on my working mornings and it literally drives me from the bed wit annoyance.

On non working mornings however, I'm quite happy to be wake and posting on the Internet at just gone 7am, with no 'help' from the radio

I met Polly Toynbee, and she was not at all like her public persona. In fact she came over as a warm and friendly person to me. I dont mind someone having left wing politics as long as they are balanced and reasoned. I cant stand lefties with a class warfare chip on their shoulders, or near fascistas in the Tory Party who are living in our glorious (not) imperial past. Or Greens with their heads in the sand. Sorry, I shouldn't introduce politics and I apologise.

Julia Bradbury irritates me because she keeps calling Matt Baker on Countryfile 'The Baker Boy', and she is so irritatingly competitive about everything she does.

Anyway, well done MM, an interesting thread as far as I am concerned.

After watching 'The Big Bake Off' last night, Sue Perkins has eclipsed everyone for total arritation.

When is that silly twerp going to realise that the programme is about the contestants baking and not about her pathetic attempts at humour?

Frank:

I take your point about Polly Toynbee. No doubt she is very personable and is clearly an intelligent woman. However, she is one publicly who goes into overdrive in hand-wringing mode, whenever a Guardian article or an appearance on Question Time is called for.

She reminds me of the late lamented Mel Smith in a NTNOCN sketch of Question Time "dragged" up as Frances Morrell (70s/80s old left) when asked what they think about the fact that USSR missiles have just been launched against the UK replied:

"The real tragedy here is that at least 5 million people who will die in 5 minutes will die unemployed."

~~~
I find Mel & Sue rather amusing and add to the entertainment value of this "Strictly Come Baking" format.
Yes MM, I agree. Some of those ultra lefties miss the point completely, and the BBC seems to have their fair share of them too. I hardly watch BBC News now because they always manage to put a spin on it.
Better economic news? Yes but we will interview Ed Balls who will tell us why not, or why it would have been better under him, or how it is at the expense of blah blah blah. Followed by smug look of leftie newsreader.
Dont get me wrong, I am probably a floating "pinkoe" myself, but I just dislike these head in the sand types on the extremes of political parties.
