OBF: Did you just stay around the docks area when you visited Kingston Upon Hull???? There is a wealth of historically important buildings, museums, etc. Plenty of cultural places and people in and from the City. It only started deteriorating a little when I left there........ There are plenty of beautiful buildings and areas in the city and all the people from there are the friendliest you could find anywhere. I live now in Bridlington where there are a lot from West Yorkshire and a lot from Hull and other places, but most people here say that those from Hull are the most pleasant and friendly. Not many cities have that accolade. Well done to Kingston Upon Hull. Just hope they now begin to be proud again of the correct name as well.

Hi Mavis
Because we were early for the ferry we parked in the centre and walked around the main 'shopping' area. It gave the impression of a town which had seen better days. There were some lovely large buildings but we didn't see anything which suggested we return any day soon.
I welcome any initiatives which help to re-vitalise towns such as Hull which have been starved of investment and for too long have been forgotten.
I was taught to be cautious

...and how could I forget Hull University where the pioneering work on LCDs started? Or Amy Johnson. Or the late Norman Collier?

Got an email today from one of my suppliers in Hull.

Underneath his contact details was the caption "proud to be from the City of Culture 2017".

Come on you Hull.

Hi Robbie,

According to BBC news this morning Hull comes top of the table for UK debt. On average 43% of the population are in serious financial difficulties...You must have taken us to all the nice places because the people we saw didn’t look short of a bob or two :)

I’m starting to think this “City of culture” thingy may have stirred up a hornets’ nest showing just how bad things really are in Hull?

Let me know if you need a food parcel sending up ;)

Keefy
dont worry, we will survive.
I doubt Hull is worse than many other major cities, such as Coventry, Leeds or Birmingham, it is more the fact of grabbing a headline about the "City of Culture"

Hi DK,

I’m sure the winning of the City of Culture award has many advantages, not least the opportunity to knock down the old and build for the future.

Keith

Btw...I’ve told Robbie he’s got to share the food parcel equally...enjoy!
