Re: Mighty Ships - Cruise Ships
The repetitive food could have been down to the umpteen consecutive sea days on this particular cruise thus preventing the purchase of local non frozen items ... just a thought.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Caught up with the series last night .. the bit hat I thought was interesting was the talk about water temperature and how it affected the ship.
It was also nice to see that P&O isn't the only line to have moaners

Re: Mighty Ships - Cruise Ships
Watched about half of the Solstice Australian cruise programme this morning and was impressed both by the ship, but then I am biased according to Merv, and by the quality of the programme. I was expecting it to be a bit rough and ready but it was very polished and informative.
Cannot see why any discerning cruiser could fail to be impressed by what is offered from Celebrity's Solstice class ships.

I agree towny, I thought the solstice looked absolutely smashing ... Celebrity is still at the top of our 'to try' list.

Ray, perhaps you could elaborate on where Celebrity failed to beat P&O on your cruise?Ray Scully wrote:towny44 wrote:Watched about half of the Solstice Australian cruise programme this morning and was impressed both by the ship, but then I am biased according to Merv, and by the quality of the programme. Hi John. I felt Eclipse was soulless and lacked atmosphere. I put this down to a very varied passenger mix and that most were in bed by 10.00pm. The double height over lit restaurant with 'plastic' chairs did not as neither did the 'glitzy' cabaret room at the top of the ship inspire me. I did not enjoy (appreciate?) the overall design of the ship. The grassed are is a gimmick that i felt totally inappropriate. The staff varied between pleasant and over familiar and in one case downright rude.

It's all horses for courses.
Just because someone prefers product A over product B, it doesn't necessarily follow that product A is rubbish.
It's like arguing that Messi is rubbish because Ronaldo is a bit better.
I like P&O.
I'd like to try Celebrity.
I tried Royal Carib and liked it but have no desire to try it again in the near future
I'd like to try Silver Seas when my numbers come in
Ultimately, we should all be grateful that we have the health to try all these wonderful things and not get bogged down by trivia and pettiness

Re: Mighty Ships - Cruise Ships
Absolutely.
I like P&O, but not as much as I used to.
I love Celebrity and it is currently my preferred cruise line. I'm not saying that won't change.
I tried Royal Caribbean and hated it. From my son-in-law's point of view they did not take his nut allergy seriously.
I'll never be able to afford Silver Seas as I don't do the lottery
For what it's worth, I did get around to watching the programme and, as a past passenger, found it very interesting . For prospective passengers I felt there was too much behind the scenes to be able to make any judgement.

I agree, Ann, the "behind the scenes" stuff is something we enjoy watching but it hardly gives an objective view of "front of house". What little we did see of the public areas impressed us though.

I found enthralling this week Stella Australis cruise and if the flights out were not so long, something I could consider. Next week The Marco Polo, could be interesting.

The Stella Australis cruise last night was certainly a bit of an adventure and not without a degree of danger ... interesting for sure but I doubt that we will be booking.

Re: Mighty Ships - Cruise Ships
A friend of mine is going on Stella in a couple of weeks' time. She refused to watch the programme as she "wants to experience it, not see it on tv". I research everything to the nth degree, so can't understand her not watching. We have found these programmes to be very interesting indeed and well presented. The flights certainly put us off going to S America; we no longer do long haul, and that flight is particularly arduous. (17 hours), But the adventure was fascinating and the organisation, and care for the passengers, reassuring. Its quite expensive!!!

I can partly understand your friend not wanting to watch last nights program since she had already booked and will shortly be embarking on her. I'm sure she has done some research like we all do, so why spoil the surprise of seeing the inside of the ship for the very first time and getting possible negative feed back from passengers on the program.

Re: Mighty Ships - Cruise Ships
I'm with you Jay.
I like to know!
Looking back to our first ever cruise, we wasted so much time (and money) because we didn't know the ropes.
I haven't seen last nights yet.
I was working until late and the same this evening,so will catch up on Thursday hopefully.
Very much looking forward to the little Marco Polo. A mate went on her last year to the Northern Lights
He described the trip as 'lumpy'

I thought the scenery was fantastic - that particular cruise would be something I'd love to do
Looking forward to Marco Polo next week. Late in 2013 we did a lunch visit to MP at Tilbury, so it'll be interesting to see a ship we know on TV

Watched it last night. Great scenery and I liked the whisky station, but otherwise not for me. Too many foreigners for my liking.

As regular Solstice class cruisers we found the programme's "BTS" filming to be the most enjoyable parts, it gave us a better insight into the how, why and where things happened.Silver_Shiney wrote:I agree, Ann, the "behind the scenes" stuff is something we enjoy watching but it hardly gives an objective view of "front of house". Very true. As the Lady C works "back of house" at Cribbs, she's got professional interest in how things go "BTS". We'd love to do the BTS tour on P&O but £70 is way too much.towny44 wrote:As regular Solstice class cruisers we found the programme's "BTS" filming to be the most enjoyable parts, it gave us a better insight into the how, why and where things happened.Silver_Shiney wrote:I agree, Ann, the "behind the scenes" stuff is something we enjoy watching but it hardly gives an objective view of "front of house".
