I could say "as the char-lady 'cos that's all she's good for" but that would be rude, so I won't...

the only hidden agendas , are the re-building of a bloody great big wall between the east and west coat of England, along the same lines as wot that Roman bloke did, only higher, wider and plugged into a power station and putting Bromide in the water for anyone north of Newcastle ;-)

I know what it's reputed to do - they put it in our tea when I was doing my RAF apprenticeship for that very reason. So I ask again - what good is bromide? :sarcasm:

Airlines operate out of Heathrow and Gatwick because that is where the largest number passengers want to be,

Cruise lines operate out of Southampton because that is where the largest number of passengers are .

As long as the highest concentration of population is in the South East of the country that is where the highest concentration of facilities will be.

I am not really bothered about which airport has the biggest catchment area, but I am deeply concerned at how much the UK is losing in business and leisure air travel while the politicians dither about how it will affect the voting of all the Nimbys in the west of london, not to mention the prestige of once again having the busiest international airport in the world.
Air France/KLM and Lufthansa probably cannot believe their luck that no political party in the UK dare risk offending these southern softy Nimbys, let's get a move on and expand one or the other or better still both.
PS Maybe the hidden agenda is another Franco/Scottish pact to bring England to its knees. :sarcasm:

London and the South East only accounts for 26.7% of the UK population. Therefore, since they are struggling so much to decide on the extra runway, and coping with a housing shortage, it makes sense to move some of the resources away from the capital rather than fighting to hang on to everything. Germany has built a strong power base by spreading its wealth throughout the country whereas we have contracted ours to serve the few. Whilst I have a passionate dislike of Mrs Krankie I can understand why the Scots feel as they do (although on my visits up there I have noticed considerable investment in Glasgow and Edinburgh, no doubt a sop to satisfy our kilt twirling friends!!).

One aspect of the population distribution we should not ignore - Boris Johnson's patch has a bigger population than Mrs Krankie's!

But only in England and Wales apparently, by stopping them coming into line with the current law in Scotland :sarcasm:

I wish Mrs Krankie would keep out of UK affairs. After all she didn't want to be part of it and she's not a UK MP. Leave it to her chum McShrek. :sarcasm:

Did I hear correctly on the news last night that Scotland has unlimited fox hunting? If that's true, isn't she being hypocritical by wanting it banned down here?

We're straying well away from the topic of the third runway...
