If the email contained a link for you to click you should be able to find the text of that link and see where it will take you to which is unlikely to be the website it purports to be. What the phishers want you to do is click on it and go to their own site, which will look very similar to the official one and will even use some of that site's images. You then type in your password and account details and Bob's gone off to a bank account in Kenya, or somewhere.Meg 50 wrote:is that view page source?Quizzical Bob wrote:If you right-click on the email and select 'view source' you can see where the proposed link will redirect you.
It comes up with vast quantities of stuff relating to my email, and nowt about the sender - unless I'm looking in the wrong place?

Re: I was hacked!
ta - was looking at the wrong link - still a load of gobbledygook - but the message I'm looking at is one of those ones purporting to be from a friend, but containing only a link - ie she's been hacked - rather than a bank

Meg, don't click on the link - just hover your cursor over it and it will show where that link will take you.

Hovering the mouse over the link should display the destination at the bottom of the screen

Your friend else a friend of a friend of a friend has had his/her Address Book pinched hence the e-mail from a chum ... as stated do NOT open the link. If it persists the only way to get shot of it is for all those friends to change their e-mail accounts and passwords, starting with you and the friend who sent it.Meg 50 wrote:ta - was looking at the wrong link - still a load of gobbledygook - but the message I'm looking at is one of those ones purporting to be from a friend, but containing only a link - ie she's been hacked - rather than a bank
ps ... do not be too hasty attributing blame to the friend
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

I'm getting loads of those emails at work, usually "from" yahoo but sometimes other domains. The sending domain is always different - .JP, .au, allsorts

s'ok, I didn't open it - just right clicked. It's deleted now so I can't check the hover thingy!
I don't have BT/Yahoo, but I will go and change my password on the offchance

Or, some organisation has been hacked and their database of email addresses has been compromised. Never reply to any email that you don't expect or that looks suspicious as it only confirms to the sender that your address is valid.Manoverboard wrote:Your friend else a friend of a friend of a friend has had his/her Address Book pinched hence the e-mail from a chum ... as stated do NOT open the link.
