No OL, Speculation by the defence lawyer, he has admitted the footage didn't fully show it 'allegedly happening.

Whilst we shall never know whether she was pushed or not…what I am certain about is if those of you who won’t commit either way and that your lives depended on making the right call you would with all probability go with the old lady being pushed off her bike.
Am I right…Again!!

Only the civil courts operate on balance of probability. Criminal courts work on beyond all doubt. And clearly it isn't in this case.

I was asking for your personal view on how it looks in the video. Whilst I can understand why the courts have allowed her to get away with murder it is clear from her stance, at about 50 seconds into the video, that she has moved towards the old lady with her left arm moving in the direction of the old lady.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 11 May 2024, 10:35Only the civil courts operate on balance of probability. I've not watched the video. I prefer the case to be decided on a hearing of the full evidence, not a tiny selection.

I've watched the video several times and as tragic as the outcome was, I cannot for certain say that she had any contact with the victim.Onelife wrote: 11 May 2024, 11:25I was asking for your personal view on how it looks in the video. As Merv has said, there's significant doubt therefore the conviction was correctly overturned.
We also need to understand that she has cerebral palsy and partial blindness so noticing a bike coming towards her on the footpath probably added to her anxieties.

Re: Current Affairs 2024
Yes it is tragic she lost her life, but If she had been on the road where she should have been then the event wouldn’t have happened. If you can’t handle the roads with all the gear and no idea then stick to cycle paths or don’t ride.
If I walk down the middle of the main road there’s a good chance I’d get knocked over and probably killed. So you don’t do it.

Two things that annoy me with cyclists are they campaign for cycle tracks and then when the council create them at great expense the cyclists don't use them and when they have all the gear on they then think that the rules of the road do not apply to them so they keep going at traffic lights.

Not remotely interesting. They're all made by people who were not in court and have not heard the full evidence. YouTube is not, thank goodness, part of the British justice system.

Re: Current Affairs 2024
Not seen the video before but the footpath looks very narrow for pedestrians and cyclists (who shouldn't be there anyway) . In such a situation I would expect the cyclist to give way but nowadays many cyclists seem to think they have a God-given right to be there and expect everyone to get out of their way.
I'm sorry the lady lost her life but looking at the width of the footpath getting past the woman would have been tight and it wasn't her right of way anyway.

Re: Current Affairs 2024
On the narrow country roads around here Lycra man lives to ride two abreast which makes overtaking virtually impossible.
When we lived in Lancashire they held time trials which involved them putting their heads down and cycling well away from the verge and with little idea who or what was behind them. Dangerous and a perishing nuisance.
I came up behind one who was zigzagging from one side of the road to the other going up a steep hill and got upset when I saw an opportunity to go past him.
There are many considerate cyclists but too many who are arrogant and inconsiderate for anyone else using the roads. Little wonder some get knocked off.

It’s not the first time that I stand alone with differing opinions but I’m honestly flabbergasted that sensible members of this forum can watch this video and not see what I am seeing.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 12 May 2024, 18:01Not remotely interesting. I watched it 3 or 4 times and the action all takes place in the last tenth of a second, which is far too fast for me to make any judgement.Onelife wrote: 12 May 2024, 19:16It’s not the first time that I stand alone with differing opinions but I’m honestly flabbergasted that sensible members of this forum can watch this video and not see what I am seeing.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 12 May 2024, 18:01Not remotely interesting. Getting a little wound up this week as Friday looms on the horizon. Will the new Rebus cut the mustard? Could anyone follow Ken Stott who just seemed made for the role?
I’m sure there are many examples of a new actor taking over a character - & I quite enjoyed Endeavour ( but that was a prequel so not quite the same.)

And I'm flabbergasted that with a viewing of less than a minute of YouTube video you think you have a better grasp of the case than three appeal court judges who have studied all the evidence.Onelife wrote: 12 May 2024, 19:16It’s not the first time that I stand alone with differing opinions but I’m honestly flabbergasted that sensible members of this forum can watch this video and not see what I am seeing.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 12 May 2024, 18:01Not remotely interesting. ONYERBIKE Sir Merv, you know as well as I know that the appeal court decision was brought about by issues surrounding the way the initial court hearing was conducted.
The question I posed to you wasn’t about the appeal court decision it was about whether or not she was pushed. So, lets clear one thing up before we go any further… physical contact was made between the two people involved as it was Ms Grey herself who said that she had made “light contact” with Mrs Ward. The police believed there was enough evidence to proceed, as did the CPS all of which which led to her trial and conviction, later to be overturned due to the appeal court judges interpretation of how this case should have been heard.

Is that 40% discount off the holiday or 40% discount off their recommended travel insurance?

Argh, the old sweetener for the first year then they whack up the premium sky high on renewal. Had the same offer with a well known building society some years ago. Still, you can always bite their hand off this year and look around next.
