No good trying to cut the lawn; moles, yet again. Anyone got any tips, apart from assassination? No good offering me your cat, unless he's got more about him than any of mine had. Moles defeated every one of them.

I've not tried it myself but I have heard that those little plastic windmills on sticks you get at the seaside are quite effective. Apparently, you stick a few in the lawn and the vibration from them spinning around in the wind drives the little blighters mad - really !anniec wrote:No good trying to cut the lawn; moles, yet again. Thanks, but tried that a few years ago. Stuck windmills in ground, went out for a bit, came back and one of the windmills was leaning over at a jaunty angle with a bl00dy great molehill underneath.qbman1 wrote:I've not tried it myself but I have heard that those little plastic windmills on sticks you get at the seaside are quite effective. This is our third in 6 months - have to get a mole catcher out every time and it's getting a tad expensive. Neighbour is using Jeyes Fluid, but imagine (if it works) that it's a very unpleasant way to go.

Re: The Children's Off Topic Thread
The GardenAdvice preferable method is to move the moles on into a more suitable area such as a meadow or out of the garden. This avoids embarrassment on our part as the moles inevitably show us up when we employ the other methods detailed earlier. We achieve this by using jeyes fluid which is a chemical that has been used for gardeners for over 50 years for a whole range of tasks including sterilising pots and soil, controlling moss and a whole host of other uses. We simply find the run open the highest end up and using a watering can pour in a strong mix of jeyes fluid and water (1 ; 20 ) With the mole having a highly developed sense of smell it tends to drive them away from there current location. To make sure they are going in the right direction we also water a banned across the lawn or bed (using a diluted mix 1:40) to form a barrier against the mole moving in an undesired direction. Over about 10 days we continue this operation until the mole has moved on.
Stolen from the Internet.
This may be why they are in your garden and not next door.

Waiting for the results of Jolson's blood tests but the vet thinks it may be a neurological problem caused by an inner ear infection. He's also got dodgy vision in one eye. Sounds expensive !! He's had an anti-inflammatory and is now back home and seems much brighter.

Argh bless him. He looks a handsome chap. Hope he gets better soon.
And so what if I am off topic. When it comes to animals especially cats all bets are off.
