We won 1-0 at Northampton yesterday in a typical first day friendly where we gave two teams a bit of a run out. It gave us a good introduction to the new faces on show of whom Harry Winks shone out as one who looked very classy in midfield. It was also interesting to see other players taking on a new role under Maresca, and actually doing quite well.

I assume from what Maresca sees will give him the information he needs in the transfer market where we definitely have some gaps to fill after the outgoings and some who have come to the end of their usefulness. Some of the proposed loans and prospective purchases look interesting.

Looking forward to the new season especially if I can manage to get a stream to watch them.

I'm at Bromley v Fulham XI. 2-1 half time. A really good competitive game for a friendly.
As was ours Paul.
Sometimes friendlies can be at walking pace but this one was competitive.
Charlton on Tuesday night.
Should again be a decent match.

For EFL teams, Ifollow is available by subscription.
I pay £4.49 a month to get live audio on all matches, home and away.
For games played outside of the 3.00 Saturday fixtures, you can get it streamed live for a tenner.
So, any evening match or matches not played on the Saturday.
For the coming season, we’ve already had two Saturday games switched to Friday evenings so that’s good for us exiles. That’s on top of the already evening games.
A big club like Leicester might even do it’s own thing.

I lock myself away in my office to watch with a supply of nuts and beer, with Mrs Barney occasionally shouting ā€œwill you watch your languageā€ šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Thanks for that Barney.

As far as I know the club are going to run their own scheme whatever that may be. So far they have not revealed any details so we shall just have to wait and see what they come up with. Hopefully they will be much more exciting to watch than some of the dross they served up last year.

Lost 1-3 to Charlton Tuesday night at home.
The lack of options up front was glaring.
We only have two senior recognised strikers at the moment and one of them is injured.
So, once again, played pretty well and looked good in possession but no end product.
Our goal was a set piece free kick.
Didn’t really look like scoring in open play at any time.
The clock is ticking.
We need two forwards as soon as possible.

Won away at National South Dartford today.
Very comfortable 5-0
Could have been double figures according to the commentator.
All goals from midfield.

Scot Malone signed today.
A great signing at league two level after being a starter for Millwall last season.
Left back or left midfield.
So far, this preseason has been very good.
Now, for that 20 a season striker šŸ˜‚

This is the scheme with costs for watching the Hornets, yours will presumably be similar ?

That looks as though you will need to go abroad to watch most of the matches?

I think so. Spending £140 to watch not that many matches does not represent good value. By the time they have taken out all the matches we are not allowed to watch it hardly seems worth it. And then we wonder why people look for alternative ways of watching their team play either through iptv or some dodgy stream from anywhere in the world.
I will certainly not be paying that kind of money for that kind of service.

That is identical to the Ifollow conditions.
I subscribe to get all the matches on audio and pay £10 to watch the games shown live.
Excellent value to follow my team as an exile.

Following a tip on a past football Facebook page, we spent an enjoyable hour and a bit last evening watching a BBC film called ā€˜Marvellous’. It’s based on the life of Neil Baldwin, a kit man for Stoke City and has some classic lines. Perhaps a bit saccharine but we did enjoy it and thought Toby Jones (Detectorists) did well in the lead role. Greg McHugh who played an enforcer in Guilt has a much more benevolent part in this film. There are some famous cameos too.
It’s available on Amazon Prime.

I subscribe to Sky Sports so can watch or record Watford live occasionally and 15 minute highlights for most of their games, I can also follow most games as they happen on ' Match Day Live ' for free ... no wish therefore to shell out even more.

Hi Screwy, I bumped into Trever Francis (literally} at a night club one evening, spilling what amounted to half a pint of beer right down the front of his jacket…. his response was one of a real nice chap who accepted my apology with grace. From what people are saying about him it would appear he retained those good qualities throughout his life.

Radio Kent also covers Gills matches but I can’t pick that up in Devon.
Besides, they continuously break commentary to report on other local matches.
I’m happy with my Ifollow subscription.
Hardly breaks the bank and is in my opinion, a decent product for the price.
Ā£10 for a live match is great value given the entry charge at football now.
I suppose it’s down to the individual and his level of support.
I was a season ticket holder for 25 years and also travelled away.

There seem to be so many restrictions placed on those who live away but still want to follow their team that the deal is far from satisfactory.
I'll not be contributing except for the odd occasion. I can't help feeling the EFL are missing a trick here.

Thanks Mob.

I hope we play better on Sunday than we did yesterday - lost 4-0 although we were playing Liverpool so it was hardly unexpected. After the embarrassment of last season I hope they know what they are doing.

The Foxes are live on Sky again, Wednesday vs Burton in the EFL Cup ... it's favouritism :x

ps ... the highlights of all the EFL Cup games are on ITV4, Wednesday 10:45 ish

I'll have to get my Horlicks early

There will be much interest in the relegated teams but they will soon lose interest once we lose one or two matches.
