As you will see “Ardisia” saved my bacon winning at 20/1. very happy for you and a great price

I’m only having one bet tomorrow “Toimy Son” 4.55 Goodwood £10 win £5 place….should run a big race.
Interesting choice.....hope he does well for you
I noticed that Toimy Son won at this August Goodwood meeting last year beating Dutch Decoy 2 lengths in the Coral Golden Mile ......and would you believe that a horse called Rhoscolyn was last in that race.....Yes that same horse Rhoscolyn who won the Coral Golden Mile today and oddly enough Dutch Decoy also ran and could only come 12th......what all that means....ain't got a clue....just thought i'd mention it  :?

Apart from following your choice the only other race I'll be looking at is the 16:20 for 2yr olds where Isaac Newton is running to see if he is any good.

Hi Pompey, Seeing how much has been paid for your selection Isac Newton one would expect something special, but as you say it will be interesting to see if he lives up to his reputation.

With regard to “I aint got a clue” they say that most handicappers have their day and it is normally the case that handicappers such as Rhoscolyn become more competitive as their handicap /weight falls to a level from which they can win.

I am expecting a big run from Toimy Son today as everything points to him having been laid out for this race, my only concern is that he can throw in the odd tardy start which isn’t what you want to be doing on this course.

I’ve revised todays bet and added two more to the bookie’s satchel.

Toimy Son… Goodwood 4.55 £10 win
Purosongue… Goodwood 3.5 £5 win
Emily Post… Doncaster 3.30 £5 win

Hi Onelife,
If I get a chance to get to a betting shop today I've decided to follow your instinct and take a small bet e/way on Toimy Son and watch the race
I noticed there are 2 tips for him and so this will be my only bet.
(I also notice that Dutch Decoy who had a poor race yesterday and came 12th is also running in this race unless he gets withdrawn)

yes I think Pursongue has a chance as well :relaxed:

Hi Pompey, not the results I was hoping for but as they say, that’s racing!

If there is a takeaway from the two races it would be that 'Toimy Son' is entered up at York later this month where it will be carrying a stone less weight, albeit in a stiffer race. The horse was well placed throughout the race but didn’t find a lot when asked.

The other horse ‘Purosangue’ finished 24/27 so on the face of it had a poor run, however, if you take a look at the replay (I have several times) you will see that the horse came with his run but his jockey must have decided that his chance had gone and eased down to finish well down the field. I rather suspect the Jockey was riding to instructions with a view of saving it for a race further down the line…one to definitely keep on the right side of.

As for Emily Post she apparently tried to dismantle the stalls and was withdrawn.

I thought Isaac Newton run was better than his neck victory…plenty more to come from this one me thinks.

My bets are very modest....I might have a little bet usually on the classics or bigger races + some 2 yr old races but I don't need to put a big amount on to enjoy the thrill of having a win. Sometimes in races like the Grand National a pin can be the preferred method of choosing a horse

Looking into things a bit closer, I just get the feeling that Toimy Son is better for 7f or a mile rather than 9f that's just my thoughts and incidentally he was tipped by Templegate ( The Sun ) who also tipped Isaac Newton. Maybe the next race will go better with the shorter distance.

Isaac Newton is 25/1 for the 2000 guineas but he is also entered in the Irish 2000 guineas as well

Hi Pompey, yes, I would agree, most of Toimy Son win and place races have come over 7f with a couple of good runs over shorter so he certainly isn’t short on speed. Not so sure he will make the cut for his next declared race but if he does, I’ll be donating another tenner to a worthy cause.

Don’t lose faith in Pursoangue as I’m sure there’s a lot more to come from this horse.

Hi Pompey, managed to get a fiver on Ebt's Guard Saturday...if you remember it was one I tipped up last week but got beat by that donkey you tipped up. ;) :)

That wasn't a donkey it was the better horse
I had a quick check and an earlier comment (some time ago) by Ebt's Guard trainer was " I like him a lot and he will win races."
I am taking an interest in an unraced 2yr old running at Ayr today called Velvet Rhythm...looks interesting. Sire won Irish 2000 guineas and other group 1 races over a mile. Might need a mile rather than the 7f it's running today. Might be tempted to put a £1 win just for fun.

Hi Pompey, the market normally speaks volumes in these maiden races so ‘Special Thanks’ looks to be the one to be on, that being said, as you say your selection has the right pedigree to be taking on the Fav and at 6/1 it will be a nice return should she proves to be something special…I’ll have a listen to the race which is off shortly.

Hi Pompey, I see ‘Overlooked’ 3.45 Beverly runs tomorrow (one I tipped up a few weeks back) Ok’ I know he’s still 0 from 18 but in a weak race such as this it could be the day he breaks his duck… I must be quackers…

Overlooked… £10 win

Yes it does look a weak race but I still think he'll struggle to get a place and as for winning :lolno:
Sometime you just have to stop being so loyal to a horse that never gives you anything back.

What have I said  Now the bl**dy carthorse is going to win to make me look an idiot after saying that

Anyway, have to get the result on my phone....flying away for a few days from tomorrow :D

Forever the optimist, if it makes it 0 – 19 tomorrow I’ll be reducing any future stake to £5. 50p

Enjoy your time away

I was looking last night at Overlooked sire " Dark Angel " a really good 2yr old 6f horse winner of mill reef stakes, middle park stakes etc and the the dams sire Oasis Dream highest-rated two-year-old in the 2002 European flat racing season and won the Cartier Racing Award for European Champion Sprinter in 2003....and just wondered if Overlooked should really have been racing at 6f instead ?? Probably would make little difference but was just wondering .
Anyway what I thought I'd mention is ...
if he does get beaten by a short head you'll have wished you put a £5 e/way bet on instead of win only, something to think about. :?

Well, they backed the horse down from 5/1 to 13/8 fav and the donkey still only finished 3rd.

I’m not so sure about dropping down in distance as he seems a bit one paced but we’ll see where they place him next. I think softer ground might be the key to unlocking what little potential he has…add to this another couple of pounds drop in the weights will make him very well handicapped, with this in mind I’m prepared to back it a couple of more times despite the fact that it’s now going to have to win at odds of 4/1+ for me to break even.

P.s if I had of backed it £5 ew at Sp odds I would still have lost £3.50 ... For place betting you need an sp price of 5/1 to break even.

Hi Onelife, just like you have a few horses you take an interest in eg Toimy Son, Purosangue & Overlooked .....I have been taking an interest in one or two myself. One of those is a three yr old which so far has only run twice but won both races. It was him winning at Newbury beating Saddadd by over 3 lengths that caught my eye and Owen Burrows saying he might run him in the Arc d'Triomphe. Don't think that will happen now as he is entered in the QIPCO CHAMPION STAKES (Group 1) at Ascot on 18 October. However before that is is entered for two races at Windsor on the same day...this Saturday 23rd for the 18:15 or 18:45 which is a group 3 race with older horses. For me it will be interesting to see how he runs against the older horses but he will have to be showing his class if he wants to make the top three in the 18:45

Talking about this Saturday....I've noticed that Purosangue is running at Goodwood 14/1 and also to my surprise Rhoscolyn is also running 8/1
I think Mudbir will be favourite and looks like has a good chance to win. You will probably have a bet on Purosangue but he seems to be a horse who shows a preference for soft going and that goes for Rhoscolyn as well so that might be a factor during the race.

Hi Pompey, it doesn’t look like your fancy has made the three-day declaration for Windsor Saturday… so perhaps the !8th Oct looks to be still on? What were the two horse/s you were thinking about as I’ll keep an eye out for them.

Yes’, had had noticed ‘Purosangue’ has been entered up for Goodwood Saturday. Whilst I’m not one who enjoys giving money away, I will be backing it again, indeed, I’m thinking of going £15-win £5 place as I do fancy its chances, however, as you say the going may temper my enthusiasm a little come the day.

If that donkey 'Rhoscolyn' does for me again don’t be surprised to see some hate mail in your inbox Sunday morning. ;)

Yes ...Gethin was showing in both races yesterday but as you say never made the 3 day declaration. I was hoping for him to have a race before the big one at Ascot Qipco Champion Stakes which Owen Burrows won last year with Anmaat which he has entered again along with Gethin. Thinking he was going to have a run at Windsor ...I very boldly placed a £2 each way anti-post bet @33/1. He has got some big older horses against him like Ombudsman & Calandagan who came 2nd last year....but you never know I might get lucky and he gets a place.

Such a shame the Yorkshire Oaks had only 4 runners.....no decent opposition for Minnie Hauk.

Regarding Purosangue.....don't listen to me ....go with what you think. I think having £5 place is a good idea ...I still don't see him getting a win for this race and I might be tempted to put £1 e/way on that donkey Rhoscolyn

Also going to be taking a look at the 15:35 group 1 5f at York tomorrow....not having a bet but seeing how 2 yr old Lady Iman does against the older horses

A good races at York today but I also will be taking an interest in the result of the 14:35 2yr old race at Newmarket.
Unraced Monoceros looks to be favourite and is already at 33/1 for the 2000 guineas next year.
Also St Anton & I Can Dance both unraced are running and entered for the Royal Lodge Stakes ( Group 2 ) in September
Won't be watching the races on TV as I'm out all day so will catch up this evening.

Hi Pompey, I’ve taken a look at “Gethin” and was impressed with its two runs prior to sustaining an injury. I think your speculative bet is well placed if the horse has recovered from its injury (like the trainer says he has) and lines up. If this proves to be the case then 33/1 is a no brainer. What impressed me about his two wins were that he looked as good on both good and soft ground which generally implies the horse has class…whether that class is good enough to beat what is a very strong field in the Qipco Champion Stakes is another matter, however had the horse run this weekend ‘and won’ you would be looking at half the price you have taken (good spot Pompey)….I shall watch with interest.

Like you it will be a watching day for me…saving my pennies for tomorrow  :)
