How about this for some "sensitive" reporting on the men's race walk from the good old BBC:

"France's Yohann Diniz, the clear leader for much of the race, has pulled over to the side of the road with around 16km to go. The 38-year-old looked in some discomfort for around a minute and was applying a sponge to the base of his back..."

Sky Sports would just have said "he's sh*t himself" !

One of the "better" bits of commentating was the other night in the diving when the commentator was making reference to the pool not being green and was now opaque

Talking of commentating, who was that woman who was commentating the womens semi final hockey match against New Zealand a few nights ago. I found her high pitched screeching quite off putting and detracted from the match which the ladies won 3-0.
There also appears to be a disproportionate amount of time devoted to interviewing mothers, fathers, boy/girlfriends, next door neighbours etc. All we need is to know how the family dog feels and we have a full set.

Funding is always a difficult one. British swimming got its funding slashed after London but they have done really well this time around. On a lighter note I see there is some comment in the papers today about the EU producing a medal table placing EU at the top of the chart. ( I guess Yorkshire did the same at London )

Don't know about the commentator but wasn't the goalkeeper just amazing in the final? I haven't watched much ladies hockey since I was at school (and there was probably an ulterior motive then!) but the penalty shootout was captivating and so much better than the football equivalent.

That penalty shoot out was edge of the seat stuff. The GB goalkeeper was outstanding. I don't normally watch hockey but that was an amazing game with so much at stake.

I read an article on Sunday by some plonker who was comparing the GB Lottery-funded sports with the East German state-sponsored medal programme of the eighties.

Actually, I agree with him.

Brazil is a developing nation that couldn't afford to build those facilities, which, as was obvious from the recent coverage, had large numbers of empty seats (= lost revenue), while the money found for this event should have been used to improve the lot of people suffering in the favelas. The organisers do not appear to have learnt the lesson taught in Greece. The opening and closing ceremonies are occasions for the next hosts to outdo (at great expense) the previous Olympics.
