Re: Nearly Christmas!
Does your wife read this forum Mervyn? You remind me of the son of a friend of ours. When he was about 8 or 9 and wanted to buy his mother a Christmas present his father suggested a pot of Oil of Olay moisturising cream as he knew his wife used it. That was fine and the mother was pleased. However, when the boy was 19 and still buying Olay his mother thought it was time to have a word with him! (I thought it was called Ulay but the internet tells me I'm wrong.)

It was Ulay once. Don't know why it changed.
I do know a bloke who actually bought his wife an ironing board for Christmas! She marched him down to the January sales to buy the new coat she really wanted.

My next door neighbour once bought his wife a chopping board, I think I'd have hit him on the head with it

Re: Nearly Christmas!
I do buy Trish nice things really, but I can't stand this Christmas in August/September stuff.
A couple of year's ago we went to the Cotswolds in early November and Costa's was playing Christmas carols. Ludicrous.
I understand that some people might need to shop early, but we don't all need to and it's really annoying when supermarket shelves are stripped bare of stuff we actually wasn't to display Christmas tat in September.
We love Christmas, but much prefer it in December!

That's the trouble with buying food, especially tins of sweets, cakes and biscuits, too early because you end up eating them straight away and then you have to buy the whole lot again nearer to Christmas. Once those sort of goodies are in my cupboards I have no self control

Even a padlock wouldn't deter me, David. I have been scoffing Magnums all summer because they have been on special offer and then to walk into Morrisons on Saturday and see all the lovely bags of Quality Street, Celebrations, Roses Chocolates at bargain prices was almost too much.
All this temptation is starting to undo all the good work from when Keefy Onelife was running his diet thread.

I got a sack barrow from Mrs S a couple of years back. Not sure what she was trying to say but it has been a very useful bit of kit

Re: Nearly Christmas!
I'm really surprised that here we are, over half way through November and the Christmas thread has been silent since the beginning of September - yes I know there are those who say - and a good job too! I thought it was time to resurrect it - surprised Sue hasn't done it before now. Nearly got Christmas cards written, Christmas presents for the Grandchildren bought and hidden - just have to remember where they are. As we are at our daughter's for Christmas - only 20 minutes away - I thought I wouldn't have to worry about food. Well as she works in the family business along with my son-in-law and my husband and has two small children she tends to be very busy so I said I'd order the turkey - done that. Now I find I've also ordered other food stuff, and said I'll make Jamie Oliver's Cook ahead Turkey gravy and freeze it, oh and yes the Bread Sauce, I can freeze that too. Suddenly it feels as though I'm doing Christmas after all but at least I won't be cooking on Christmas Day thank goodness.
Have long lists written for the Aurora cruise in January - mustn't get them mixed up with the Christmas lists. How on earth does anyone organise themselves without writing lists - well apart from John who only has to buy me a Christmas present, oh and a birthday present for me in early December and he'll get one of the girls to do that, and he doesn't do any packing for the cruise either! Do other men pack for themselves when going on holiday? John never has. When we get on board a cruise he'll tell me that I've bought too many shirts or whatever for him, or I've forgotten to pack something else. I've told him he can pack for himself but he's never taken me up on that!

Re: Nearly Christmas!
Oh how I wish my husband would pack for himself! First of all he packs just one pile in the middle of the suitcase and it goes in any old how. So because I always mix our packing, and do all the ironing, I somehow have to pack as well!
