Re: Current Affairs
Like you towny on a personal level I am not even aware that Brexit has happened - nothing in my day-to-day life has changed. Whether the lockdown is "hiding" some issues we will only know when lockdown ends.

Nothing that has happened so far has surprised me, but I listened to the warnings and didn’t dismiss them as Project Fear.

Oddly enough you are the only one who mentions Project Fear. The rest of us have moved on and are now discussing the situation we have and how matters could be improved. You are welcome to join in instead of persistently moaning about the rest of us. If you have some positive comments to make I feel sure we would be happy to listen.
I can’t make out if that’s a genuine comment or a moan.

Re: Current Affairs
The only thing that has tangibly changed for us is that we have had to supply our European suppliers with an EORI number for importing.
Took about 20 mins to get online.
We’ve dropped one Italian company and replaced them with another Uk firm from Bournemouth way.
Our four main clothing suppliers are now 3x UK and 1x Danish.
Our main bag supplier is having point of origin issues but that will get sorted shortly.

As one who doesn't fly any more I'm moaning that Project Fear said planes would be grounded and yet they are still flying. Does that qualify as a legitimate moan? Tough if it doesn't but it's the best I can do.

Ideally he should be put to work a week on the COVID wards and, since he thinks Whitty is a liar, I am sure he would not want any sort of PPE.
I would still love to see the chav, that was swearing at Whitty, give a response after spending a day on a COVID ward.

Perhaps if he spent a day wheeling the poor souls who have lost their lives down to the mortuary he may understand how serious and how devastating this virus actually is.

It I say anything on this forum that is in agreement with the majority it's ignored, but I'm always jumped on by half a dozen posters if I say something that the majority doesn't like !oldbluefox wrote: 04 Feb 2021, 15:25I take it from that, that you still believe the moment we left the EU the housing market would collapse (despite house prices rising), the pound will collapse in value, hundreds of thousands would be out of jobs and car manufacturers would all relocate to the continent. I haven't been posting here for the last month as it's a not an enjoyable experience anymore , but commented today as the general tone doesn't sound like you are the happy bunnies that you all profess yourself to be.

On a purely selfish basis I am not yet aware of any significant problems from brexit. My passport will need renewing about 6 months earlier than before, We may need to apply for an EU on line visa/ESTA sometime in the future, and I am sure there will be other wrinkles, but nothing yet to tear my hair out about.
There's plenty of information online about problems that people are experiencing, should you wish to inform yourself

I hope this is true. I was well overwieight with UK in my portfolio, so over the last few years I have got rid of the majority of my UK holdings (best decision ever), however when the UK failed to recover, along with rest of the world last year, I stopped selling in the hope of a bit of a bounce in January - that failed to materialise. So I guess I will hang on until summer/autumn before bringing UK down to a more realistic 4-5% of my portfolio.

I know that Gill, but since most people recognise that the media love a drama above a romcom, bad news is only to be expected. And I guess I am not the only one who measures such pain on the personal basis, so rest assured when it hurts me I will let you know.

towny44 wrote: 03 Feb 2021, 10:10None of the media outlets seem to listen to what the experts say, Vallance, Whitty, Van Tam and the others all say that the vaccine efficacy is an average across all recipients, just about everyone will receive some protection, and it should significantly reduce hospitalisations and minimise deaths.
As regards the vaccination roll out, I fully expect the govt to achieve their target of all the over 50s by the end of March.
I had a conversation with a senior sister at our practice who said that it will be a fantastic achievement if they get 14,999,999 by February 15th, but she confidently expects that if that happens the media will make a big thing about the target being missed. She said that the medical profession are very unhappy that so many people are ridiculing these scientists, when they have no agenda except minimising the effects of the virus. The tabloid press are in the vanguard of that with expressions like "Professor Doom". They just want a doom laden headline, and the excuse to use that wonderful tabloid word Fury.
