Names for New Babes

Unread post by gfwgfw »

Evening all

One of my many lady friends has today been blessed with the safe arrival of a bonny grandson in far away Qatar, a dear brother for Daisy May

Naturally I was well pleased for my very special lady i asked has he been given a name and what is it

A hesitation then Charles, his grand fathers name, nice

But his given name even I thought extraordinary, my lovely friend is quite distraught

Hey Ho dear ship mates

Are there any names currently used that give you the "cobble wobbles" :?:

Be at peace and have a good night

Hi Graham - so what was the name which caused a reaction?

I don't have anything 'against' sensible names - but I don't like trendy-silly names really'

Otherwise the only names I wouldn't like would be names which I personally associate with people who are no longer part of my life.

HI gfw,

If l'd had my way our daughter would now go by the name of "Ohara" and no l wasn't suffering from "scarlet" fever when choosing it....l just think it sounds nice.

In answer to your question the names that seem to cunjure up dislikes in people are names that bring back unhappy memories. Whether it be subconsciously or not you are very unlikely to warm to names of person/s you disliked at school for instance.

Congratulations to your lady friend for the safe arrival of her grandson.

Remember my granddaughter's name?? Kaleesi Rainbow Blueberry Jasmine Akrill. Now that is a mouthful!! She is doing very well at the moment btw.

I can't understand the names of some babies now. The normal ordinary names that stand the time are far the best.

Grand-daughter No 3 arrived yesterday morning in Florida - they're calling her Mali Rosalyn. Apparently "Mali" is a Welsh name.

Sometimes names themselves aren't the problem, it's the word that can be formed from the initials - pity Paul Roger Anthony Thompson

There were two new baby boys born in our family over last month. The first has been named Stanley. My first thought was how can anyone call a baby Stanley but it is growing on me and at least he will never have to put his name on his tools.

The second baby (not related to the first) has been named Searle. I have never even heard of this name before. Both beautiful little boys.

Hello,

My Son and DIL have 7 week old twins, names are Oliver James and Thomas Ethan. Both are lovely boys. I also like traditional names.

Your post made me smile Sue especially the mention of tools - nice one

I must admit I like traditional names.

My friend's grandchildren are Fox (boy) and Bo (girl). The family live in Australia.... which explains it I suppose.

My next door neighbour's granddaughter is Edith.... I feel that is on a par with Stanley.

My grandsons are Joseph Oliver, and Charlie Joshua. Nice.

Following on from what Suespud said I am waiting for a child to be called 'Wickes'...."its got our name on it". Brooklyn was pretty strange, but I do think that some parents are being influenced by some of the silly 'celeb' names these days.

when we came to choose our children's names I found particularly hard - as a teacher several names have dire connotations...

We came within an inch of giving senior daughter VD as initials...

So Junior daughter had Dawn as a middle name long before we found the right first name!

Ours are Oliver David, Harry Alexander, Ramsay Noble, Noah James, Max Joseph, Ruby Florence, William Terence.
All middle names are family names, Ramsay is named after my dad, William is named after my grandfather.

Love them and their names to bits!!! :D

Mali is Welsh for Mollie

Working with new born babies means I get the whole range of "names", and sometimes that is used in the loosest sense of the word!

My grandchildren all have a Welsh connection in their names - Olivia Sian, Phoebe Cerys, Thomas David and Alexander Evan - like Sue love them all to bits - can't wait for the weekend when the granddaughters are visiting (with my lovely son of course  ).

When I worked for the local authority we sometimes dealt with Social Services cases and one of the children whose name stood out for me was Cherokee Piper Fuller Jones :o

When I worked for SS I knew of twins called Brandon and Bailey.
People couldn't remember their names so they got called Bradford and Bingley.

My grand daughter is Rosie Ann, but if she had been a boy it would have been Stanley. It's very popular at the moment.
When I was nursing 4 decades ago a baby was called Hieronater Sloper!

looking back on this a couple spring out
Kaleesi, is it taken from Game of thrones, as this the title given to a queen or female tribal leader in the books
Searle or Ceely, sounds like one of the lead characters in "Bones", Ceely Booth

Many years ago I had a girl friend with the initials BAG (She wasn't!) she is now happily married and has become BAP.

My brother and I are in no position to criticise any way because our mother gave us a couple of stupid third names. The entire family have been blessed with a few strange ones, perhaps reflecting Isle of Wight eccentricity.

Eccentric, what a cheek, Frank. However, my initials when I was single were M A D. I can remember them embroidered on my shoe bag.
