Men and Dishwashers
Now it may only be my husband - although I have a friend who says her husband does the same thing. Why do they put, say a glass or mug they have finished with either in the sink or on the draining board and not in the dishwasher? Then when it comes to the time to put the dishwasher on he has to rearrange everything I've put in as it's not as it should be. Wouldn't it be easier just to open the dishwasher and put his mug in rather than leaving it out for me to put in and then having to move it later? I just don't understand it!

Some men get blamed for not stacking the dishwasher properly. I say all dishwashers should be well-stacked.

Well if you arranged things properly in the first place he wouldn't need to redo it for you!

Would humbly suggest that to load a dishwasher efficiently requires a certain amount of logic, which is why in our household it's my job! Pass the tin hat.

It does seem that in all the households I know the men are far far better at stacking the dishwasher correctly. I cringe when we go to our nieces house, because her hubby does no housework at all, she has to stack the dishwasher and OMG what a mess it looks, then she blames the machine when it fails to get things clean.

Re: Men and Dishwashers
We share the jobs, but I have to admit that I have to be 'in the mood' to do them. I do feel real shame if I am doing something for myself and come in and see that Sue has done something which I am capable of, and could have done for her. I add that later this afernoon I will be cleaning out the fridge feezer. while Sue starts on the post cruise ironing. We both stack the dishwasher and unload it depnding on who is around and sees that it is ready to go. I stack the plates much closer together than Sue does.

Our husbands sound like twins - separated at birth maybe - to be reunited over the art of dishwasher stackingCaroleF wrote:Now it may only be my husband - although I have a friend who says her husband does the same thing. I must applaud my husband's approach to tidiness in the kitchen and especially with the dishwasher. The only thing which does annoy me sometimes (if I'm in a scratchy sort of mood - which is rare) is that when he unpacks the dishwasher he puts all the Le Creuset pans on top of the hob, where as I prefer them neatly on the carousel in the cupboard. Apart from that he's really great and kind and helpful - there was only just one time when he did everything perfectly but forget to press the 'on' button - and we had a good laugh about it at the time.
I personally think that any man in the house who quietly and kindly gives assistance in the kitchen department is worth his weight in gold.

Sorry I'm the one who loads the dishwasher in our house, I don't discourage Jon from putting things in but do rearrange later! Sue

I am in charge of my dishwasher... no one else is capable of loading it to its optimal capacity...david63 wrote:Women and dishwashers are diametrically opposed
Before we had a dishwasher I thought my sister in law was barmy when she unloaded all that I had helpfully loaded into hers - and reloaded it getting twice as much in...
I understand perfectly now

My OH takes the title dishwasher in our household. Very efficient and cheap to run.

Re: Men and Dishwashers
My husband likes his little joke and if he sees me loading or unloading the D/W will say .. oh that's what happens to the dishes, I don't find it funny now after 30 years
It also irritates me that he is incapable of loading it and switching it on

Loading and switching on is multi tasking. Something men can't do. Oops

That's where you're going wrong - not only do you have to load it and switch it on but you have to add a tablet/powder/capsule to ensure that the dishes are clean.

I load the dishwasher at Maldon towers. And yes, I do wonder why the good lady cannot put her empty glass or mug into the dishwasher instead of leaving it on the work surface............the lazy bitch........'OUCH, sorry dear, Onelife made me say that'.

Re: Men and Dishwashers
I stopped loading our dishwasher 30years ago. Hubby always re stacked after I had put anything away. Waste of my time even bothering so now I don't. Works perfectly well for us. I could never vacuum correctly either, or turn the washing machine on, so guess what I am now truly a lady of leisure .....almost. I just need to start getting the ironing wrong. Still working on that one.

Very true Andrea but the thing is he was a training manager with Hoover for 20 odd years and trained Service Engineers so it should be a piece of cake for him, funnily enough he can't switch the washing machine or vacuum cleaner on eitherAndrea S wrote:Loading and switching on is multi tasking. I am the dishwasher at home.
We've got a dishwasher machine at work and, despite two polite notices on the worktop, people still leave their dirties on the draining board/worktop. It's usually me who has to load it in the evening and unload it the following morning.

I'm with you Carole. My Hubbie will put water in the mug to stop the hardening of any marks. I think he thinks too much opening of the DW Door may cause an early breakage of the door!! I've not said that - I just grunt quietly
Having said that he will load it completely following a meal!!!
I wouldn't swap him though
