CHEEK!!
I am the dishwasher stacker in this house and after years of practice I'm an expert. My old dishwasher lasted me years and was still going strong when we moved house. We left it behind and although I now have one of the same make I don't like the arrangement inside it as much as my old one.

The only dish washer in this house is me, Lorraine just dumps everything in the sink and I wash it, dry it and put it away, and I am then told to make a cup of tea when finished, causing even more washing up, woe is me  :(

Will have been married 50 years next year and in all that time, we have never had a dishwasher in any of our houses.

I hate for the washing up to be left lying around, the majority of the time as soon as a meal is finished I then get the washing up done, the kitchen tidied and work surfaces cleaned etc. then make a cup of tea especially after our evening meal.

But if you had a dishwasher then you could have your cup of tea, put thr cups in the dishwasher and set it going - no more extra washing up - simples

Only a MAN would know that glasses get scratched if washed in a dishwasher and for this type of reason I much prefer to supervise than to partake.

We have a dishwasher but not really sure that we need it as Sue has small feet and can get really close to the sink ;) ;)

An update - a few minutes ago John has walked into the kitchen and put another empty glass by the sink to join the one he put there earlier when coming down for breakfast. I wouldn't mind but he leaves it to me to put them in the dishwasher and then rearranges them when it's time to put the dishwasher on! Why not put them in the machine in the first place? I don't understand. It must be a man-thing!

Oh no it's not Carole.

Just leave them there to pile up, then when you run out of clean glasses he might get the message ;)

My wife is short Phil, so to save on the energy bills I chuck her in the dishwasher with the cloth and washing up liquid and let her get on with it. A double whammy really as it saves on baths for her as well

My husband is the same. One day I said to him - when I bring the shopping home do I put it NEXT to the cupboards? No - I put it IN the cupboards. Do I put the washing NEXT to the machine? No - I put it IN the machine. So PLEASE put your cup IN the dishwasher!

Went to town this very day . . . and purchased a Wilco Mk washing up super duper ergonomically designed brush together with a 20 extra for free Fairy Liquid for a mere 300 pence

IMO washing DW are both extravagant on both electricity and HO2

Life is ever so simple in rural Darzet

I can't remember where I saw it, Graham, but I read not so long back that dishwashers are actually more "green" than doing the dishes by hand. Possibly true if you don't wash up after every meal and fill the machine up before switching on.

Hi Graham

I Googled "dishwasher economy" and found several articles stating that they use less water and electriciy than washing by husband.

All the best
