Re: UKIP
Hi Graham,
I briefly caught the news today that the chap who now has the nickname of Farage Balloon isn't going to contest a By-election ..... and that makes me wonder if he is either (a) scared of a fight and a trouncing (either at this by-election or at the following general election) or (b) too content and comfortable where he is as an MEP, and to blazes with all his trumpeted statements and opinions.
He is of course entitled to his statements and opinions, and he is also entitled (well and truly) to protect his own back and protect his current income and not gamble his reputation and financial situation by trying for the House of Parliament. However, if he cared about the people of the country well and truly wouldn't he had thrown his hat into the ring and had a go?
It may well be that a vote for UKIP would be a wasted vote.
I don't think I would vote for UKIP. However, at the moment I am otherwise occupied, and not at all fully clued up on the political situation, so I could be completely wrong.

He also has more sense than to stand in a seat with a safe majority of 16000.gfwgfw wrote:Dear Em

Re: UKIP
Personally I would not vote for somebody who I regard as Racist, balls or no balls.
If the polls are to be believed his party will do very well in the European Elections, on the back of the anti European feeling in this country at the moment.
However when it comes to the general election, I believe his party will be hard pressed to win a single seat, unless Mr Farage in the meantime can find himself a safe seat to contest.
He certainly does not have the balls, to try and win a seat with a 16,000 majority.
He also, certainly will not be getting any votes in this household.

Re: UKIP
not uncertain that he means well, but some of his party are letting him down badly, and on the strength of that I wouldn't touch him with a barge-pole - it's beginning to look like a middle class BNP

He is just the latest new kid on the block who is trying to shake up the establishment.
He or UKIP will never get a sniff of power but good luck to him.
I don't personally agree with his views but wish him well in upsetting the status quo.
The career polititions have had it too good for too long.

Re: UKIP
I agree with a lot of his aims but after flirting with his party at the last Euros, since when nothing much has changed except that UKIP MEPs have also grown fat on Brussels gravy, I think I will be reverting to type at this one.

Re: UKIP
Given that he has openly stated that he has no affiliation or other association with Newark, I think he has done the honourable thing by refusing to stand. A local MP should be, IMHO, exactly that - local. Time and again I've seen the major parties parachute in their favoured candidate to a by-election.
True, some of his party have come up with very distasteful comments, but then so have politicians of the other parties yet I do not hear the same outcry against those party leaders that is being levelled at Farage.
I do not consider his, or his party's, views as racist and I will be voting for them in the European election. I'll probably vote for UKIP in the next General Election as I have no confidence in either of the other two parties.

Re: UKIP
Well, until he 'stands up to be counted' in a general election in the UK - I think he is simply nothing more than an annoyance.
When he acts seriously, then I will take him seriously - and not a moment before.
Mind you, having said that, I've got other things on my mind at the moment, so any vote I take part in will simply have the same contribution from me as usual.
I can't make a difference to the political side of life, but I can make a difference in the Granny department!

Re: UKIP
Interesting that they are branded as racist, when in fact they are only in agreement with Cameron, when they say they want to limit immigration to 50,000 a year
when Cameron said he wanted to limit immigration to tens of thousands a year he was applauded
funny that the Tories on this forum happily forget their leader is as "racist" as UKIP
good luck to Farage and I hope he stirs the pot enough ,to get the selfish, lazy, public school, politico's off their fat, over privileged arses and do something in the interest of the country rather than in the interest of London and the home counties
Up the revolution..........................right up it

Small minded, no policies on the critical issues, and blind to the economic realities of a post industrial economy. I fear that they will set our country back years,
Prejudice against people because of the school they went to is almost as bad as prejudice against people because of colour, race, or religion. Not far from bringing in gulags.

It is my belief and given the right sett of circumstances there is a "cultural" racist in all of us...apart from you of course?
As far as the European elections are concerned l will be voting UKIP but not because l think they have any workable policies but because they are the only party which is trying to retain something tnat was once "Great Briton"

I wouldn't even share the same table as him. A clueless imbecile who hasn't got an idea about how the real world works. If he spent less time drinking and smoking he might get out there and learn something, but I doubt it.

Cannot see anything in his part's policy's or what he personally spews out, that in anyway would help retain anything that was once "Great Britain"Onelife wrote:It is my belief and given the right sett of circumstances there is a "cultural" racist in all of us...apart from you of course?

The reason could be because I don't agree with your analysis.Dark Knight wrote:He spewed out the same "racist" dross as Cameron
don't see you running to call Cameron a racist Dellboy?
Whilst I think this country is still "fairly racist" and "The Conservatives" haven't been brilliant around race, in no way do I think that Cameron is in anyway racist, neither do I think he spills out the same "racist" dross as you put it, as Farage.
Just my opinion.

Re: UKIP
Interesting views on the economic realities of life in the EU, but perhaps you ought to study the trade stats. The UK is the major import partner of quite a number of the EU countries, including Germany, and we have a massive imbalance in favour of the EU in our trade. Now I appreciate that non Brits are not very bright, but surely these countries will not want to jeopardise their economies if the UK decides to withdraw, ergo "call me Dave" has all the aces up his sleeve if and when he steps up to the negotiating table. Even he should be able to screw them till their pips squeak and get us a fantastic new deal. But if we do have to leave then joining the likes of Switzerland and Norway would not be a problem for me.Frank Manning wrote:davecttr wrote:As i take the opposite view to UKIP on european issues i will not be voting for them.
