Jeremy Clarkson
Will this odious prat finally get his comeuppance?
Given that Michael Gove was supporting him on daytime TV this morning, it would seem he will
Good riddance.

Re: Jeremy Clarkson
Why - what has he done now?
Personally I do not have any strong views one way or the other about him.

That he may be but this is a ridiculous set-up. If you listen to the alleged original ten he could be saying anything.Ray Scully wrote:Will this odious prat finally get his comeuppance?

Re: Jeremy Clarkson
He is worth too much money to the BBC for them to sack him.
Personally I think the whole thing has been taken out of context, it's the PC brigade gone mad as usual.
However I don't think Gove should have got involved.

Easily offended Guardianistas at work again.
As usual, something and nothing but some folk love to kick up a stink.
So very, very glad that I don't have to work in that oppressive environment.
I'd probably last about two days before 'offending' someone to death or lamping them one.

I am not a fan of Mr Clarkson per se, but I really do think this is a big fuss about nothing. All he did was utter/mutter an old rhyme - and I can't see anything wrong in that.
So, I don't like the majority of the stuff this chap churns out, but I don't think he did anything wrong. He can quote absolutely anything to me, and I won't be offended.

This stupid PC business gets right up my nose. We will be told what to think next. Yes, Jeremy Clarkson is an idiot but this has all got blown up by some Labour MP trying to make a name for himself.
We had an incident on the Island recently on the Southern Vectis Bus travel updates on twitter when one of the staff tweeted 'some stunning girls around tonight'. OK, a bit crass but harmless and in jumps the local pathetic councillor saying young ladies shouldn't have to put up with remarks like that and that the Bus Company should deal with him. I'd have been thrilled to bits with a remark like that, not upset !!! I can't imagine for one moment that any of the girls were upset or insulted in any way.
The world has gone mad.

Blown out of all proportion, as usual, by the over sensitive.

Typical non-story from the gutter press ... how is it someone can get into trouble for something that got edited out, did not get broadcast and even then is very debatable and non-conclusive?
I think Clarkson should take his show and move it to another channel .. Top Gear is the only decent show on BBC ... maybe if he did so, then the resulting loss of revenue will teach the BBC that many of the general public do not want to waste their money on a licence fee to watch what would be left of their second rate low quality program schedule and fund their homophobic, mysogenistic, molester protecting management.
I think LittleJohn has got it spot on

As I read it, Clarkson's unfortunate "n" word was not broadcast. Someone with a big spoon reporting nothing, methinks.

Hi Maureen, I did all my courting on the mainland under the watchful eye of girls' parents!Kenmo1 wrote:Courtship?? Is that what they call it?Frank Manning wrote:They have some novel courtship techniques on 'the island'.

To get back to Clarkson (I dont rate the bloke, he is also quite mysoginistic); but it is a non PC rhyme and we shouldn't be using it, but they have blown it up out of all proportion. Will it be just as bad to use another which was common in my childhood which mentions gypsies?
To put things in perspective Sue was called "White trash" to her face by an afro carib gentleman. I dont suppose that counts though!

The fact is he did say it, hes admitted it.
It wasnt broadcast no, but didnt Ron Atkinson get the sack for a similar thing?
Is the BBC racist? How many black people actually present anything?

Actually he has denied saying it, but was forced into an apology by the BBC.ChesterfieldJohn wrote:The fact is he did say it, hes admitted it.

Ron Atkinson made a hugely offensive and deeply unpleasant remark, and was rightly sacked. A better analogy would be Carol Thatcher's foolish but (IMHO) not intentionally offensive remark; she has not been seen at the Beeb since, but then, she didn't have Clarkson's revenue generating capacity. Far creepier, for me anyway, was the fact that someone privy to Ms Thatcher's private conversation reported it - shades of Communist East Germany.
Far worse than either of them was Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross's telephone call to Andrew Sachs, both still on BBC TV. Not racist, though, so that's all right then...

I agree with you regarding these two. Why they are still on BBC TV I don't know. With regard to Jeremy Clarkson I don't like the man at all he is another talentless, overrated, overpaid bighead I wouldn't miss.colwill wrote:

He still maintains he did not say it, it was the BBC who forced him to apologise, and they have now put him on a final warning.ChesterfieldJohn wrote:The fact is he did say it, hes admitted it.

Personally still think its PC gone mad, there may be a lot of people who don't like him, there are also a hell of a lot who do, his programmes make millions not only for himself but also the BBC.
However I guess the PC brigade will get him in the end.

Steady on, Ken, people get castigated on this forum for admitting to reading the Daily Mail!
Seriously, though, while it is never acceptable to use the "n" word, what about the "N" word? In the remake of The Dambusters, Guy Gibson's dog has been renamed "Blackie". Surely we shouldn't be changing historical facts to suit some PC-mad fool?

'fraid not. Sorry, I was told they'd compromised on "Blackie" but it seems it's now going to be called "Digger"
