My 'free' shoes

Unread post by anneed »

Just had to share this.

I went into the Salisbury branch of Hotter shoes in Salisbury to get some cleaner for my tired but comfy leisure shoes. The sales girl was clearly inexperienced but a colleague glanced at my feet and said 'Dark aqua cream' which I then bought.

Now I did think the colour looked a bit different but went ahead and slathered the stuff over my shoes. They were ruined. My blue nubuck shoes were now a streaky, green.

I returned to the shop first thing the next day thinking they'd try to avoid blame. How wrong I was. They immediately took responsibility and offered to send off for identical replacement shoes or I could choose a different pair from the shop.

So I now have brand new shoes (which actually cost £10 more) and they even refunded the cost of the cream.

That's what I call good customer service.

Brilliant Anne

Wasn't it you that got a council tax re-banding earlier in the year ??

They say things come in three's so I would make sure you buy a lottery ticket.

It's nice to hear when a company will accept responsibility for their mistake.

Jo - you and I know each other too well.

Anne, I read your post and then went off to read others. I came back to say exactly what Jo has said. Well done

Definitely buy the Lottery Ticket

You lovey ladies are disgraceful, make no mistake about that

My very first Hotta purchase . . . the sole left the uppers

I sighed with what an a*se sole I am and bung them in the wheelie bin

No more cheapeee shoe shops for the Giant

Be happy and have a peaceful evening

Yes, I have been lucky - and I'm in a lottery syndicate at work so you never know. Mind you, I've been in this syndicate for years and I don't think we've ever won more than about £20. Still, you have to be in it to win it.

And I think Hotter must have improved since Giant's experience. Perhaps he normally wears designer footwear but in my book Hotter aren't 'cheapeee' at all. My new shoes were £69.

I don't think we have any Hotter shops in our area or at least I've never seen one but I have had their magazine through the post and I don't think they sell cheapie's either considering you can go in somewhere like M&S and buy a pair of shoes for around £25.

Yes you can get cheaper shoes elsewhere but Hotter offer wider width shoes in some quite acceptable styles which don't look like some of those horrid ones I've seen in adverts for the elderly! I've had two pairs of Hotter sandals and one pair of loafers - really stylish and wide enough to fit my wide feet! I have worn the loafers for most of the winter and they still loook good - they do have occasional sales too. I'd love to buy some of the really pretty shoes I see but unfortunately they are always too narrow for me. I looked in M&S only yesterday and even their wider Footglove shoes are too narrow for me.

Did they ever get the monorail running there? We did the electronic station signs when it was first built. They called it Merryhell then so things must be improving :)

I think that you need to remember that there is no "free" anything in life.

Whilst in this case the shoes were replaced there will be a cost incurred by the company in doing so and that cost will ultimately be passed on to the customers or the shareholders.

Goodness that is good service. I've seen those shoes advertised on TV and I'm always looking for comfy shoes. My feet always swell up when I'm on the ship so maybe I'll send for some online.

Sue swears by Hotter for comfort Emjay, and their size 12s fit me, and I am really a size 13. (I do totter a bit on stilletos though  ) Anne's experience confirms what we think. Also all their shoes are made in the UK we believe...even better.

For comfort I always go for Rieker. The most comfortable shoes ever - just like slippers!! And they come nice and wide.

Yes Bob they've had the tram system in Sheffield for years, you're not getting Meadowhall which many refer to as MeadowhEll mixed up with the Merryhill centre in Birmingham are you as I've never heard Merryhell used to describe Meadowhall but that doesn't say it hasn't been :?

They are based about 6 miles from us. They manufacture a lot of their lines there, a rarity these days, shoes manufactured in the UK

Yes, you're right of course. Meadow hall is on the old steel works on Sheffield, isn't it? Whereas Merryhill is on the old steel works in Dudley. There's a pattern here.

Yes the pattern being the decline of the steel industry, very little of it left now in Sheffield sadly, I'm not sure if the Meadowhall site was a steel works ( as I'm not from Sheffield ) but there used to be many in that particular area so it probably was.
