Graham: I am sorry I didn't mean to take over your post as I seem to have done. I was merely trying to say that it is best to do almost anything rather than let a loved one go into a care home.
It is you that is the brave one, coping as you have done so well without your beloved. Still as cheerful as ever.

Graham, I am really glad to hear that. It gives me hope that at least in some communities care is still a high priority.
As for your initial post, I first heard the exact same proposition made by ‘Margo MacDonald’ a former long term member of the Scottish Parliament who suffered and eventually died as a consequence of Parkinson’s disease.
She tried many times to have the law changed to allow her to take her own life when her condition became unbearable. She did not succeed with this and as an alternative to going into a home she made the same suggestion as you did.
One governor of a major Scottish Prison was on record as saying that Margo would be made most welcome if she was sent to his prison for he knew that they would provide better care than his father had received in a care home!
