Very Happy 40th birthday Rubic Cube

Unread post by gfwgfw »

Greetings

Mr Goggle has kindly put a user friendly Rubic Cube on their home page

Reminds me that my then five year old daughter surprised us all by completing the puzzle in nano seconds

Have a go it is fun

I could never complete the Rubik's cube although I tried for hours. Typical that a five year old can do these things easily, gfw.

When my Dad had dementia he seemed to constantly want to do something with his hands and we searched high and low on the Island in 2007 when they weren't so common and eventually found one. We gave it to him in the care home thrilled to think that it would keep his hands busy only to visit him the next day to find that he had totally dismantled the complete thing and the carers had collected all the pieces up and put them in a bag for us. Another brainwave from us that wasn't very successful. Maureen.

I think adults probably over think things… I never had a rubik cube… I wonder if you can still get them.

I gave up trying when I found out how to take them apart and reassemble them. As an engineer this to me is an equally valid solution. :)

If you click on the google cube it lets you do it on line but it doesn't tell you the answer… :-( I will keep having a go but thanks for the ebay reference. :-)

Whytake it apart? Just peel off the labels and re-apply them. Keep it simple.

Even more fun is to reassemble it (or move the stickers) into a combination that is insoluble :)

I could never work it out for myself, but after I was shown the few standardised moves you actually require to complete it then it was just a case of trying to do it quicker and quicker. I can only remember how to complete the first face now, I think.

insoluble
what do you try to dissolve it water for??
hardly going to solve it that way, as it is plastic and plastic does disolve in water and is insoluble

unsolvable?...not that's more difficult

'Insoluble' is apposite. My Chambers dictionary has: 'Not capable of being solved or explained' :)

If you rearrange the colours in a certain fashion you can create a cube that cannot be solved by rotating the faces.

Greetings from rural Darzet

Spoke to my daughter this morning and mentioned the Rubic Cube and her dexterity in quickly solving the intriguing puzzle at an early age

She added that in no way could she do the puzzle now

The pattern was explained to me and I did manage to master the cube

A pleasant day to all
