Perhaps "Dark Night" what you need is some "Day Light" to lighten these dark moments, or perhaps it should be to enlighten these dark moments.

Well said Em,

not at all.
as you will see over your tenure on this forum, I have no tolerance for people who are less than honest
you know the type, they tell everyone they have booked a lavish cruise holiday, in an expensive suite and brag about it all the time, yet for some odd reason they always have an excuse and cancel them all at the last minute or even worse ,when they see somebody from here is really going on that cruise, they make up a woeful lie/ excuse why they can't go
I have no truck with liars, braggarts or Walter Mitty types who pretend to be a lot more than they are
it is a quirk of mine and not a personality defect

Dark Knight,
I can't fathom it out - I don't know of anyone on here who has booked a cruise and then cancelled it for no good reason. Just what point are you trying to make here?

Re: Titanic Experience
We seem to be drifting away from the topic.
One interesting theory which Bisset uses is that because of economies in Titanic's construction due to the financial difficulties of White Star Line, she had three screws instead of four. He suggested that this meant that reaction to the helm order to avoid the iceberg would have been slower, also that Cunard could not believe that the supposedly watertight bulkheads compartmentalising the ship had not been carried right up to deck head level, and thus a flooded compartment could spill over and start to flood that next to it. Of course discovery of the wreck has shown that the gash in her hull while not large, does run much further along than had been expected, consequently flooding more compartments anyway.
There have been losses of other passenger ships, which have aroused less 'historical' interest, among them the Lakonia, due to fire, then hull breaches the; Republic (collision), Andrea Doria (collision), The Costa Concordia (grounding), the Princess Victoria, the Herald of Free Enterprise, and the Estonia, (car deck flooding and capsise). the wahine another large almost new ferry lost on passge between South and North Isalnd New Zealand was due to high winds and swell at harbour entrance causing the vessel to bottom and tear off the screws, thus without power she drifted on to rocks and was lost. In the case of both the Republic and the Princess Victoria, the radio officers remained at their post until the very last minute, and were awarded medals for their bravery.
The loss of the Republic was the first time that radio (The Marconi System as it was called) had been used to summon assistance. Jack Binns the Radio Operator on the Republic was saved, sadly Radio Officer Broadfoot GC lost his life.
