Bees and Bats

Opened the patio door this morning to the sound of bees buzzing around the cotoneaster - what a reassuring sound - the past few years it has been noticeable how few have been around. Still keeping an eye out for the bats (no not DK ) - now that is special seeing these little creatures darting about in the twilight - if you see them in your garden you can post the location on the Big Bat Map - just google it - it shows their whereabouts all over the country. No jokes please about being a bit batty to do this

Every day we have Bee's drinking out of our bird bath, we have to keep it topped up, so they can drink from round the edges, if not they are likely to fall in and drown.

We have bats flying up and down the back garden at dusk. Actually, it might be just the one bat that I keep seeing.

Same here, we have the odd bat flitting about at dusk. Not that I'm that fond of the little critters.

Bees, now that's a different thing. I like bees and wouldn't mind having a hive one day

We often see bats at dusk, I remember a few years ago going into the conservatory to lock up for the night and I was halfway to the door when I saw a bat flying backwards and forwards, I shot out of the door fortunately my front door was unlocked so I was able to go back in the house that way and close the door into the conservatory the last thing I wanted was it in the house as I was in on my own, it eventually flew out.

Bees I can do - and I must say they are fascinating creatures. Bats I don't like - ever since one flew in through a patio door (this is decades ago), and managed to get lodged in the chimney, then escaped back into the lounge and made a blasted mess.

I have never really liked bats though - a bit unsure as to what they really are.

However, I can watch bees all day long given the chance - but more especially I love to watch waterlords.

we have had bats in our belfry at our last 3 houses and they are wonderful creatures, but they are also a protected species, so if you get one in the house etc, you should call the RSPCA or your local wildlife trust to remove it properly, as killing or injuring them is an offence

We once stayed in a b&b with our boys on a basketball weekend and the owners told us that the little dish on a table in the hall was to collect bat droppings.. Seemingly they errrr... dropped their droppings in the same place every night

Where we lived many years ago now, in the lane, one of our neighbours wanted to knock down a large barn, and sell the ground so another house could be built on it.

The neighbours were up in arms and prevented him knocking down the barn and the sale of the land, due to Bats having a home in the barn, and as you say were protected.
